Rule of law: SC moved to bring back Haqqani

LAHORE: A petitioner on Thursday called upon the Supreme Court of Pakistan to bring back Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United States and a suspect in what became known as memogate scandal. Barrister Zafarullah Khan of Watan Party had filed the petition, arguing that the scandal had tarnished the image of the country internationally as baseless allegations had been leveled against Pak Army. He said Haqqani had been allowed by the Supreme Court to proceed abroad after he submitted an affidavit but he had not returned for the last two years. Barrister Khan asked the court to declare Haqqani a court absconder and order the authorities to bring him back with Interpol’s help. He filed the petition at the Lahore registry of the Supreme Court.
