LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed an intra-court appeal challenging an order by a single bench wherein the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council was given the authority to inspect private medical colleges. The bench comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan was hearing the appeal moved by a private college against the order. The petitioner’s counsel said that the single bench had dismissed the petition challenging the PMDC’s authority to inspect private colleges. He said the PMDC did not have the authority to examine private college students. The counsel for PMDC said that it was a regulatory body and had every right to examine or scrutinise private colleges upon receiving complaints. He said private colleges should be held answerable for providing substandard education or facilities to students. The court dismissed the appeal and upheld the previous order.
