Balochistan killings: Three bodies found in Kalat, Kech districts

Two have been identified, one is a teacher and the other a resident of Karachi.

At least three bodies, including that of a teacher, were found in Kalat and Kech districts of Balochistan on Friday. Two of the bodies were discovered in Jhwan area of Kalat district, some 150 kilometres away from the provincial capital.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Kalat’s Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sultan Bugti said some passersby spotted the bodies and informed the Balochistan Levies, a tribal police unit.

He said after receiving the information, Balochistan Levies personnel and local administration officials rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital Kalat.

“We recovered a computerised national identity card from one of the bodies, which made it possible to identify one of the slain men as Khaliq Dad, a resident of Karachi, but the other person has not been identified as yet,” Sultan Bugti said.

He said the security personnel recovered two small notes from their bodies in which the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and United Baloch Army (UBA) claimed responsibility for the killings.

“One of them was killed by bullets, while the other was tortured to death,” he said.

Sultan Bugti said the bodies were under the custody of the district administration. “Cases will be registered on behalf of the victim’s relatives, once they are spotted,” he added.

Separately, the bullet-riddled body of a teacher was found in Pedarak area of Kech district on Friday. Sources in Balochistan Levies said some people of the area spotted a body and informed the paramilitary force.

According to sources, the local administration rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Turbat, where the body was identified as that of Master Maqbool, a resident of Pedarak.

The cause of his death could not be ascertained.
