Divers from the Pakistan Army on Friday also failed to recover the bodies of Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) former MPA from Sindh, Nasrullah Khan Shaji, and a student who drowned in Kunhar River five days ago.
On Monday, JI Naib Ameer and Karachi’s deputy chief Shaji was heading with a group of four teachers and 24 students of Usman Public School to Kaghan valley from Karachi when they briefly stopped at Balakot.
Eyewitnesses and police said a 10th grader, Sufiyan, was standing on a slippery stone to take pictures when he accidently slipped in the flooded Kunhar River.
Shaji, who was the principal of the school, jumped after the student to rescue him, but both the student and teacher were swept away by the strong current.
Over a 100 divers and rescue workers from Hizbul Mujahideen, Ansar Foundation, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Shabab-e-Mili, Insaniyat Foundation, JI and police searched for the bodies for four days, but in vain. On the fifth day, service of military troops was sought and a group of divers took part in the operation, but they too could not find the bodies.
