BAHAWALPUR:

Police on Tuesday killed three alleged kidnappers and recovered a man they had abducted a while ago. Another kidnapper fled, police said.

They said Munawwar Hussain and Ali Nawaz of Machka were on their way on a motorcycle when four members of Chotu Bakhrani gang kidnapped them near Pir Hazuri graveyard.

They took them to a kacha area where they released Hussain and told him to arrange ransom to free Nawaz, police said.

Hussain called police and a team led by Rahim Yar Khan District Police Officer (DPO) Sohail Zafar Chattha and Sadiqabad Assistant Superintendent Shabbir Ahmad arrived there.

Police said they were chasing the kidnappers when they opened fire. Police fired back killing three men – one of them was identified as Mir Hazar. Another kidnapper fled.

Nawaz was rescued and the kidnappers’ bodies were sent for autopsy.
