Javed Chaudhry, while speaking to Express News today, said London Police were investigating Hussain for three cases of money laundering, hate speech and Imran Farooq murder.
Background
In June last year, as part of their investigation into the Imran Farooq murder case, Scotland Yard had raided Altaf Hussain’s house in London. The search operation had continued for over 55 hours.
Later in July 2013, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police in London had told The Express Tribune that a significant amount of money was seized in the raid from the house of the MQM chief. However, the spokesperson did not disclose whether the politician is being questioned over it.
Another spokesperson had said that if a money laundering case is established, then it would be treated as a financial case, separate from the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq.
Farooq, 50, was a former leader of MQM and had lived in London in self-imposed exile from 1999. He was on his way back from work when he was attacked outside his home in Edgware, north London, in September 2010. A post-mortem gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head. A kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene.

I believe most of the supports of MQM are scared from the torture and death threats from this party. People are forced to support MQM in Sindh due to the scare of being killed or their loved ones to be kidnapped. The National ID cards of people are collected in advance of any Political gathering of MQM. Their ID cards are returned at the end only. Party needs to stop terror and let the people of Sindh live in peace.
"Not barred from travelling" But he has to be back to the Thana for further investigations in July. Where does he plan to travel and escape during this period.
@Shahzeb Jilani: No wonder Pakistan and Karachi has reached to the current state of affairs. It is because of people like you who supports someone like Altaf. Shame on you !!
I really dont understand. He is a British citizen! On what basis has the Pakistani Consular been given access? this is so bizarre! its like suddenly since the Brits want to arrest him, he has heart issues and needs to see the PK consular.
How come both Musharaf and Altaf Hussain like to take refuge in hospital. Co-incidence......
Pakistan High Commissioner London: Not bad; both CNIC and Passport issued same day.I wish same is done for other citizens
I think Altaf Hussain may have made the mistake of thinking he could get up to the same antics in the UK that he was accustomed to in Pakistan....
Met Police is a good example for the Pakistan Police and NAB.
Law should be applicable to all, without fear or favor
Please do your job.
@Shahzeb Jilani: If you have had to make your own country, why did you come to Pakistan? And if you come to Pakistan in wake of 1947 and still call your self Mohajir (no body else calls you mohajir) then please revert back and make your own country where you have come from. Karachi is your city for past 65 years. You are in majority for past 65 years and still you blame other ethnic groups for all bad happening in Karachi??? Your beloved party has been in power since 1999, what good it has done to you? You ever been to Lahore or Peshawar and have faced any difficulty or problem mingling up with the masses??? Your are an ethnic group living in most populous and most advance city of Pakistan and still try to get sympathy in name of ethnicity. Shame on you!
So he is Pakistani once again???
I did not expect this smart move by our dumb government, to get the processing a little delayed, giving Scotland Yard some time to move into action.
@Shahzeb Jilani:
I am an urdu speaking and I am ready to die for Pakistan, dont play with the emotions of muhajirs by talking about a separate country. Hardly any Muhajor would accept your wish
Pakistan Zindabad (from a muhajir)
@GreyWulf: Very well said bro.
It is absolutely clear the so called unidentified men are MQM's ghunday but you don't have courage to take their name. Shame on you ET
Rabia Ali, look to becoming great writer in ET, has been writing regularly since many many days, so good...so many topics.. Keep it up...
@Shahzeb Jilani:
So r u trying to say that if Nawaz stormed into supreme court then so can MQM and extortion, kidnapping and the target killings that are done by Namaloum afraad across all city is justified? Who has givent the authority to MQM to shut down shops, buses and normal acitivity in the city? If someone doesn't want to then he would probably get shot by one of your MQM memebers.
This is the fear that has been created by your MQM in karachi and hence should be held responsible for such violence. Secondly, please recall your memory that MQM remained in GOVT in Musharraf's era, what had happened to fauji nafrat at that time? Don't distort facts and learn to recall things for a bit longer to earn a repuation in civilised society. Country would contniue to progress but MQM would remain violent, killers, murderes, bhatta khor, kidnappers and would be termed as uncivilised criminals organisation.
Anyway it is too late dude.
There was alarming situation for all of us, When the Budget was announced the same time SLY police raid there then whole Pakistan took attention towards London and no one bother about the goose Budget in which all funds including HEC and development got by punjab nothing for small provinces. Think............
Of course Karachi is a peaceful city, only if you subtract the MQM factor. This city is going to be a much better place to live .
Public Announcement: Karachi will be closed for tomorrow, all business, petrol pumps, schools, bazars, wedding arrangements, pharmacies, Hospitals, courts and Police stations will be closed tomorrow. The reason of closure is that our beloved Altaf Bhai has sustained mild injury on his finger while cutting a tomato in his Kitchen in UK. Everyone please pray for the speedy recovery of his finger. Any car seen on road tomorrow will be burnt.
@Noman: Schools in karachi is already closed due to summer vacation
MQM workers have suddenly resorted to firing today to get the businesses shut down to show peaceful shutdown of Karachi to express love for the billionaire British chief of MQM
"Karachi is a peaceful city " ?? Farooq Sattar must be kidding
People of karachi shut down karachi to show their support for Altaf, and the party representatives say that it was done willingly and without any exertion of force. Rofl, now who would believe that? I must appreciate the fluency with which these people lie. Since, i was a witness to their assaults on shop keepers and businessmen ,they were threatened by the party activists, that if they don't shut down their businesses , their shops would be set on fire. When you have got such hypocrites in party leaderships, what else could one expect from the low level activists. PLEASE stop saying it , that people shut down their businesses willingly to show support for Altaf, we are not fools! The world knows the truth behind!
May we know when and how Altaf spoke to them? In no way could he have contacted rabta committee as he is under police custody. MQM continue to fool public. First they said AH is not arrested, he is at home. Then they realized the fact that they can not hide arrest news for long so they started saying that how can UK police arrest AH without a proof or indictment. My advise to MQM is go to UK and protest there, try and shut businesses and shops in UK and tell UK police that what they are doing is wrong and what MQM thinks is right. In Pakistan they are fooling public again that AH contacted them so they are ending strike and just doing dharna's. Because they know continuing to shut Karachi would further complicate their case. AH has to face his fate for what he did.
@Oats: My der brother we have lot of Muslims in India and they are very happy hear till now there hve been three Muslims the Presidents of India, CJ of supereme court many IAS,IPS,IFS,IRS and other officers and such people who are the citizens of Pakistn for 67 years and want to break the country re not required here, you can better deal with them and the last but not the least such persons can never be satisfied he is blaming every one Pnjabi,Pathn,Sindhi.
If he is proven guilty, please also arrange to arrest and hold accountable his whole party as they all need to be checked for the same offenses, and which everyone knows they have equal share to.
Also I request Pak govt to arrange some counselling for this zombie public of Karachi who are constantly supporting a proven criminal and such behavior should not be tolerated on a state level.
I am a Karachite and a Mohajir.
Do not let him achieve the status of Ghazi or Shaheed.
The opening of the shops, businesses centers and educational institutions on the MQM's directions definitely and absolutely prove that Karachi has been the subservient of MQM and Karachi's businesses and educational institutions run under MQM's commandments and in the other words MQM is the terrorist party of Sindh. What the federal government is doing that the whole Sindh is running under the full control of MQM?????
Question remains: Why No Dharna in London ? when there's said to be hundreds of loyal workers apart from the Rabita Committee "Dignitaries"
To all my friends in favor or against the above subject, please go and read Hamid Mir's Column in Jang daily today..... The essence of story... Let the Karachi become capital again....
@khan: Why don't you go back to the hinterland of the TTP and enjoy life with them. Salams
@Alishan Patel: Soon Sharif and Zardari will also be caught. If not in this world then in their next life.
This Guardian photo of great "Quid" sums it up beautifully, no narrative, commentary or elaboration needed, priceless! Enjoy!
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/03/pakistan-altaf-hussain-arrested-london
@Silly Politics: he only soltion for them is to leave politics live as ordinary citizen otherwise leave from where they come from that is India, then they will realize and stop taking Pakistan for granted.
@Born Karachiite: are you mad? MQM is facing what they sowed in the past you cannot hide your dirty face of your party or leader in disguise of provincialism or racism.
Long live the Queen! Hail English justice!
Why don't people come together/protest in such a way against all the other ills in Pakistan that are occurring on a daily basis? Why no dharnas against rapes/honour killings/suicide bombings/excessive military spendings/corrupt governments?
@The Paki: You smell to be fuming with hatred against MQM. May you understand whats true justice and why Pakistan is a failed state. Pakistan ka Allah hi hafiz hae.
Looking at the situation in Karachi and Sindh who can say that MQM is a political party, People were so afraid and wanted to reach their homes as soon as possible on hearing the news and still they don’t dare to go for work – whole city is made hostage by this organization. I wish this might be the end of nightmare period for the people of Karachi and Sindh.
I remember Karachi pre-MQM, it was a much better place, and safer and more equitable.
@Born Karachiite: Altaf Hussain went to London, because he alleged there was a conspiracy against him in Pakistan and the police were out to kill him, got UK citizenship, and swore allegience to the Queen. Now I understand he alleges there is a conspiracy against him in UK, the British police are out to get him, and he suddenly applied for a Pakistan passport...
Everyone respects your freedom to chose which party you support. Please respect the other people who do not support Altaf Hussain.
Why are people protesting against the arrest of a British citizen on British soil for British crime?
@Maria ali: Blind followers like you cannot bring sanity to the politics of Pakistan. Get a life.
@Timorlane: spot on!
karachi shut down who is responsible and who is terrorist party
We are with Altaf Hussain he is our leader we don't want to listen anything. Our well wishes and pray is with you our dear Leader.
Am i the only one baffled by our politicians showing sympathy towards Altaf Hussain? He is a British citizen living in self exile. Where in the world does a political party leader rule by living overseas? I'm sure if he is innocent he will be released. So whats the problem?
Secondly, what positive thing has Altaf Hussain done for Karachi? He holds the city to ransom, promotes violence and then endorsed and sympathised by our politicians?
No wonder Pakistan is in the state it is today.
everyone wants to be free of Pakistan. Maybe they should look inward and understand that they just want to be free of themselves.
Funny to see how all Politicians are lining up with one of theirs accused for stealing others money. Perhaps a sense of community?
A British subject gets into trouble with the British Law........and Karachi shuts down. Some serious questions should be asked from British authorities and we should demand compensation from them.
@Ayesha Friend: "Just Curious that Where is Ayesha Now for defending MQM and Altaf Hussiam all the way they need NOW?"
Gone fishing along with her buddy some Mrs. Zafar after Scotland Yard hauled the biggest fish!
Altaf Hussaun has been arrested by London police under the charges of money-laundering but the vehicles and other property of the Pakistani citizens have been damaged in Karachi. What does it mean? The police must have proofs otherwise this could not have happened. Altaf Hussain knew all the situation before hand. The government should take effective steps to protect the lives and property of the people in Karachi and should not play the role of a spectator.
Readers/ Bloggers The whole notion, principle, ideology of MQM is skewed. First of all how can one be a Muhajir ( Immigrant) if they have not migrated. No body remains a Muhajir after 66 years. The party leaders talk about one specific group of people ( ie an offspring who migrated from India only and settled in Karachi/ Hyderabad) If that is the case then why not called indian or hindustani muhajir. I only say this because we have Afghan Muhajirs, Bengali Muhajirs, some Central Russian Muhajirs etc
Also if MQM is a party of Muhajirs then why called as Mutahidda Qaumi Movement. They said that they were moving away from that agenda. They said they will represent middle class and lower middle class but why plead for one ethnic group.Probably to seek permission in the elections.
So those who did not settle in Karachi what are they called and why they don't call themselves as Muhajir?
Then who are the new Sindhis? Then who are Urdu speaking?
Also provinces of Pakistan were declared on the basis of ethnic origin ie based on the language spoken/ originated in those areas! Does Karachi has its own language? I know Bangladesh did?
Urdu is spoken all over Pakistan? in fact in India as well?
This just goes to show the confusion around identity.
Did anyone not inform Scotland Yard that this clown is above the law; Pakistani as well as UK?
the king of terror probably face the biggest challenge in his life.
Why No Dharna in Londin?
@Doesn't add up: well nawaz and zardari are not British citizens. This matter is between a British citizen and the British police.
From morning i was very very very very happy when i heard that Altaf arrested by British Police. (Thanks to Allah that British Police is not like our Pakistani Police, atleast we see some justs).
THANKS ,Scotland yard police .this person has spoiled the soft image of mohajirs and every time he himself called mohajirs who made Pakistan let me say he terrorized the whole Karachi that is why his gatherings were never attacked by bomb or BANDOOK but every other parties were not spared in karachi the reason behind is clear !
Three cheers for Scotland Yard, Hip Hip hurry!!! Hip Hip hurry!!! Hip Hip hurry!!!
Karachi is defenseless against the Taliban without Altaf bhai and MQM.
@Shahzeb Jilani someone pinch this guy to wake up pls.man have some life.the support for MQM in Karachi has long gone.Pretty much all of the karachiites know this reality bro.u gotta stop this wishful thinking
i wish they would stop saying that altaf hussain's party mqm represents muhajirs. IT DOES NOT!! and i haven't seen one person being prosecuted in my family in pakistan just because their ancestors were muhajirs. MQM is not a political party, it is a cult which ignores to live in the present day competitive world, has no plans for actually working to earn, it has come to know that fear can easily run their business of doing nothing with profit.
My dear all brothers, I belive only that if he is not in guilty, UK government will not touch him and if they find guilty then he will punish only 6 months, and after that he will stay in Dubai like other political persons. He will lead karachi from their. His party persons so called karkun, they only punch only mahajirs, they can not face any other persons. They closed all shops yesterday in front of me, and I know them they are MQM karkun, from here only twenty yards far there is pathan colony, no karkun go there and close shops, because they dont have power to askthem. MQM only lead, Thailay wala, shop wala, Rikshaw, texi, Faqeer. In ke ......... main itna dam nahi ka kisi aur ke basti ke taraf daikh bhi lain.
do they have any Iftikhar Chaudhry in UK?
if not, then am afraid this guy is doomed..
@ Born Karachiite
For your information your leader was a Pakistani; he is not a Pakistani. He himself chose to seek asylum from Pakistan and opted for Britain's nationality. Do not forget that he revoked his Pak nationality by claiming asylum. By law a person cannot come back to country from where he sought the asylum. So your comment is not valid to speak up generally for the discrimination against Pakistanis.
He reaped what he sowed
Just Curious that Where is Ayesha Now for defending MQM and Altaf Hussiam all the way they need NOW?
Will everyone please stop praising the UK police. They apparently don't need Altaf anymore so have begun the process to dispose him off. He has been in London for 20 years and the British knew very well what he has been upto during that time.
It is inconceivable that the British government did not know what was going on since 1992. They chose to look the other way because Altaf Husain was providing them some Karachi-based services (intelligence gathering, getting some tasks done, etc.). More recently, his quality of service probably deteriorated so he became more of a liability and less of an asset. A stay in jail might reinvigorate him, and he might offer some 'deluxe' package of Karachi-based services to UK+US. If they like his offer, expect the charges to disappear.
@The Paki: Selective justice is recipe for disaster. Why then Pakistanis consider themselves discriminated in the West!
@ Shahzeb Jilani
I support your concept of new country. Please feel free to do so in Arabian sea. I would like to see you in my neighborhood.
@Born Karachiite, Big Deal and Ashraf
Crime is a crime dear, whether big or small. You cannot have a glass of water even with a single drop of alcohol in it. So please stop being ignorant and accept the reality that your God-father is now gone for good.
At least the protesters should not damage the property in their country. Burning trucks, buses, car or shops is your own loss.
those who could not become Pakistanis in 65 years how can they be Britishers in 25 years? who not migrated from India? i think 70% of Muslims came from India so why there is no Muhajir thing in Punjab, KPK or BAL? why this filth is only found in Sindh?
Father of the nation should at least know how to deal with Britishers. lol
Moment for our political elite to reflect , a line has to be drawn between them and their off shore fortunes piled up through their rent seeking pursuits in this hapless country . Imagine Liaqat Ali . Ghulam Muhammad , Nazim uddin , Sikander Mirza , Husein Shaheed Suharwardy , all of them died in gentle poverty with no off shore fortunes , could we name any first tier leader of this country who doesn't have wealth and such like stakes abroad , the unending saga starts from Soule to Dubai , from Zurich to London , from Barcelona to New York , from Atlant to Ottawa .Imagine the reaction , The British law enforcement machine has moved against a British national for palpable violation of the British law . Does it warrant burning and vandalising property in Karachi and driving the peace loving people to the edges . More so when we know it pretty well that th British system will not buckle down to such Durnas .
Qaid-e-Tehreek is the GREATEST Pakistani since Qaid-e-Azam. This is a conspiracy to defame him.
Happy Holiday my Pakistani Brothers and Sisters.
Money laundering in UK is a white collar and tiny amount of 250K pounds is not that big of an offence as it feels from the comments here.
Come out of your hatred for Mohajirs & MQM and you will see Pakistan prospering again!
Long life MQM!
@Shahzeb Jilani: Mr. MQM Voter please enlightened us when MQM took out a rally or resorted to dharna or strike against Quota System, for Revival of Karachi Circular Railway, against ethnic cleansing of Urdu Speaking people from Sind government office by wadera corruption party that it's love to be allied with? ???
We love Altaf Hussain and MQM is a reality. Your social media gurus can't reverse the reality. Stay commenting. MQM is largely supported by middle class and not rich and sick Sindhis, proud Punjabis and racist Pathans. Pray for Pakistan and care for us! You have lost one arm already because of Punjabi chauvinism, Don't repeat the mistake by mishandling Karachi.
@Shahzeb Jilani: And the first jalsa for a free karachi movement (!) will be held in Lyari. Or maybe not.
@omair: Your narrative did not include Balochis, Pathans AND Anglo-Saxons. Get out of that Annu Bhai Park mentality already. How many countries must an Indian refugee criticize in a lifetime anyway?
I'm a Pakistani as much as anybody else but sorry to say Urdu speaking can't get along with most of Sindhis and Punjabis due to their hatred towards us which was the sole reason of the creation of MQM.
Agree @Dr. Abid Shah Mashwani:
@Saif: But his arrest has nothing to do with the Imran Farooq's murder case. As reported, it concerns suspicions about money laundering. So, can the Fed Government provide any evidence to the effect that the money has not been laundered? No, I don't think it is possible or even relevant? I doubt that the Govt would ever hand over the suspects, that is if it actually has them, as it would be expedient to use them for political leverage.
@Munaeem Jamal: Not the police, but the courts indict. But you are right the jubilation is premature.
Should he get acquitted, he and his party are going to be even rougher with opponents. No reason for celebration yet.
Some politicians with a criminal past are offering help to Altaf.
Police have not indicted him yet. The case is not in the court.
thanks london police!
@Shahzeb Jilani: You say you have been voting for this lot since 25 years. Ccirca 1988, when bhai's image appeared on a leaf (seriously), did you line up at 90 to catch a glimpse like the rest of Pakistan-builders? Just wonderin'.
@Confused: Think only as a Pakistani and that would overcome the legacy of parochialism. Regards.
I'm very happy. Lets get done with that rubbish n filth in London and have peace! Wish a prosperous Karachi.
Those backing Altaf, hope to receive his support when they are brought to justice.
"Federal government says that it is ready to help Altaf Hussain legally, Express News reported."
The best help Federal Government can give is to handover 2 suspects Scotland Yard is asking for in Imran Farooque murder case. They may help by confessing Imran Farooque's murder as their own act instead a conspiracy by AH and clear Altaf Hussain's name from murder charge. This may help avoid him a really long prison term.
@Shahzeb Jilani. Did your ancestors bring Karachi from India? Please feel free to go back. Karachi was ours and will remain ours. Believe me.
I don't see Pakistan beyond Punjab! We in Karachi are made to serve them and any attempt to stay united is met with all sorts of pressure tactics. Any response to such tactics is termed as illegal. Interesting country :)
@Shahzeb Jilani: IN karachi u mean all the parties used violence? But in rest of Pakistan I dont think parties used violence to shutdown the city ... It is just Karachi we have seen every time violence erupt when ever some body want that-. Can u quote any other city where such violence are seen by public through any political party?
@Junaid Siddiqui: Proud on your brother on your thinking.
Why? MQM has enough money in their kitty, let them defend their beloved. He was in self exile, no one asked him to leave Pakistan except MQM. Our tax payers money is not for this purpose.
People of Punjab claims to care more for Karachi than us belonging to this city. How ironic!
This arrest should have been made many years back. I am hopeful that Karachi will become peaceful now.
@Shahzeb Jilani if you still call yourself Mohajir after living in Pakistan for 50 years then instead of annexing Karachi, why don't deport you back to from where you came as Mohajir in Pakistan/Karachi. Please remember you and your ancestors didn't bring Karachi with you, rather Karachi welcomed you when you chose to come to Pakistan.
Wheel jam strike call given throughout London by party activist Transporters have supported the call.
There will be no exams throughout schools, colleges and Universities in UK.
I wish this arrest happen to Zardaree. A gigantic money laundery master!
"Federal government says that it is ready to help Altaf Hussain legally, Express News reported." NS Government is ready to compromise to shield itself from any significant challenge. Either that is statesmanlike, since Pakistan has a host of other problems to attend to or that is lame? It is difficult to judge the PM.
Definitely, I'm a proud Pakistani, Alhumdulilah. The point of mentioning myself as a muhajir was that , even us muhajirs(not the ignorant ones) don't support this terrorist network. I've long been a witness to the tyranny and oppression of these traitorous,so called representatives of the Muhajirs, trying day and night to separate karachi from the Pakistan, the country which gave em the name, the identity, homes to take shelter and food to eat. The atrocities and the torment we karachites( people of the proud nation Pakistan) been through, mustn't go unpunished. InshAllah this city will again be a city of lights!
why altaf hussain! ! just because he belongs to urdu spoken community why charges not put on zardari Mr. 10% and Nawaz sharif who do and support others in money laundering and other financial crimes.
With this politics of coercion and intimidation is not going to end soon. But one hopes it does.
@Junaid Siddiqui: No NO NO..
You are a Pakistani.
And I am so proud that you are a Pakistani.
Lets make Karachi the City of Lights again
This news made my day. I was waiting for this news since many years.
Please keep Karachi peaceful.
Now lets deweaponise it forever.
@Oats: No no NO.
Not the right argument to make to SJ
Everyone has a right to free speech and peaceful political choice.
We are ALL Pakistani. Period.
Karachi is home to all.
@Doesn't add up Grow up please. Altaf was caught with money in his house. He is a british citizen. Others are NOT and others have not been caught sitting on money in their homes.
You are mixing theories here but please be clear, he is a british citizen who is under jurisdiction of British police and after being caught is going through THEIR legal process. Don't mix and match Pakistan policies with theirs. Money laundering means a lot of cash he got caught with and cant provide the source and further more why he did not pay TAX on that money. In US/UK, you just cant get away with sitting on lot of money, have no source of income and not paying taxes etc.
Hope this leads to the end of the politics of "dhons, dhandli, and dhamki."
Good work done by English Police. I appreciate it.
@Shahzeb Jilani:
"There is a feeling in mohajir masses that the case built up against Altaf Hussain in London was actually by the Pakistani establishment who have been trying hard in the past 20 years to somehow get Altaf out of the political scence."
And for that Punjabis have planted 400,000 pounds cash in Altaf Bhai's residence? I wonder then why Altaf Bhai claimed the money was donations from MQM workers? for which he didn't pay any taxes.
@Shahzeb Jilani: Why are you so angry against other Pakistanis when it is the UK Police who found Altaf Hussain is guilty. Why compare his alleged corruption against others to debate whether it is more or less? If you want to drag a separate Karachi into this debate and deride native Pakistanis, just go and make your separate state in India and leave Pakistanis alone.
Karachi need KCR i wonders how its gonna worked???
I'm a mahajir, living in karachi and this news made my day!! Hope he gets the righteous punishment for the terror he had been spreading in karachi over the years. Today i myself witnessed the members of this party forcing and assaulting common people of karachi to shut down their business and shops, irrespective of the fact if they are muhajirs or not. This terrorist network needs to be shut down if peace and prosperity is to prevail in our karachi ,which doesn't belong to these so called muhajirs alone, infact each and every person who is a pakistani national owns it, be it the sindhis, punjabis, pathans, balochis or muhajir brothers. Let this city live in peace!!!!!
Good job UK police. Lets see when the Sharifs, Hussain Nawaz, Zardaris, and a number of other politicians who have bought very expensive properties and palaces in the UK clearly by laundering graft money get the same treatment of law.
@waj: Just to correct you, Mqm was created in 84-85 so you can count the years yourself.
Are we in North Korea or pakistan ? Our dear leader , our revered leader , our special leader, do they pray to Allah or altaf Hussain ? When people of Karachi are so ignorant what hope is their for their children they keep electing thieves and murderers so what do you expect them to give back to you? Roses and chocolate or death and destruction?
@common man: Man! If people showing such hatred for AH then I expect same for Zardari,NS and various others also but I'm sure they won't pick none of them.
@Ali: What do you think about NS and Zardari?
@Shahzeb Jilani: I am a mohajir and the MQM has earned whatever hatred hounds it through its own deeds. Stop dreaming about an independent Karachi.
@Shahzeb Jilani: Oh please no other parties closes down a whole city only mqm does this every time dont forget he lives in london not in karachi do u think closing karachi is justified karachi closed for one pakistan loses millions of rs but mqm doesn't care about it
Shahzeb, grow up it's 2014 not 80's, and how can you be voting for ethnic/regional party for 25 years, when its 20 years old
A humble request to MQM, Please don't SHUTDOWN the schools tomorrow. thanks #Karachiites
@Shahzeb Jilani: Mr. Shahzeb, it appears you are at least somewhat educated. Please dont pass off "Tumhari Bori Tayar ho gayi hai", the countless murders, and never ending extortion as just part and parcel of politics. Perhaps in your part of the world its a-ok if a person has killed one person, so long as a rival politician has killed two, not in the UK though. That ain't gonna fly. One murder is enough. Half a million pounds laundered is enough.
So just sit back and let justice be done.
And don't tell me to thank you for your countless sacrifices for Pakistan, you probably werent even born when 1947 happened. Forget it. Want to live in Pakistan live like a Pakistani, don't hold an entire city hostage just because some pathetic guy out there living in "self imposed" exile is getting what he deserves.
@Shahzeb Jilani: Altaf is arrested because he was in UK, Nawaz/Zardari are in Pakistan and are Pakistani. There is no point to justify him, No one is above Law in UK.
Shahzed: grow up, its 2014 not 80's
Nightmare of karachi soon be over hopefully inshallah.
MQM should be banned if Altaf is guilty
£250k is absolutely nothing in this day and age, you probably can't even buy a house in most of developed world with this amount. Nawaz and Zardari have £millions stowed away, yet no prosecutions for them in the 'money laundering' cases? Something bigger must be going on behind the scenes and this money laundering case is just a façade.
Thanks to british police
Continue your hatred punjabis/pathans/sindhis on this forum. Mohajirs gave you Pakistan and now inshallah we will form another country of our own free from your tyranny and hatred. The country will be called Karachi.
is living in karachi our biggest fault ?
I have been voting for MQM since past 25 years solely for the reason that they are the least corrupt among all of the Pakistani political parties. It is ironic that the leader of MQM got arrested in UK because of money laundering that said the amount mentioned is peanuts compared to the money that has been laundered by the leaders of other political parties such as Nawaz Sharif or Asif Zardari. It is completely wrong to portray MQM in a negative light by saying it controls karachi by violence. Strikes and street violence is part and parcel of politics in Pakistan and has been used by all political parties including Peoples Party, PML-N or Jamaat-e-Islami. It is actually most of the times it is a reaction to the unjustices of pakistani establishment. Like e.g members of the PML-N (of current PM, Sharif) stormed the building of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1990's because they did not like the decision of the court against their leader. So does that make Mr Nawaz Sharif a violent man? Fact is that there is xenophobia against the mohajir community in Pakistan and they have been victimised in the past 50 years by the ethnic punjabis and pathans who run Pakistani establishment. There is a feeling in mohajir masses that the case built up against Altaf Hussain in London was actually by the Pakistani establishment who have been trying hard in the past 20 years to somehow get Altaf out of the political scence. The basis for that is actually hatred against the Mohajirs. Millions of punjabis in the UK who have been actively lobbying against Altaf Hussain due to their hatred. If Pakistani punjabi/pathans/sindhis dont like Altaf then fine.. annexx Karachi. You should thank us muhajris for the 50 years you got as we were the ones who gave you Pakistan and now we will built another new country. Inshallah.
The writing was on the wall for a while and luckily for Pakistan it was the long arm of UK police. This is going to create instability in Pakistan as the remnants of dictatorship are all going to form an alliance. By holding hands with Qadri, Chaudhrys and now MQM, PTI is now going to support MQM to destabilize the system. Once IK was a sworn enemy of MQM and its chief and wanted to prove to the UK government about their crimes. Now all of a sudden IK is with them when the law finally is catching up with their criminal activities. IK supported Mush then went against him, supported CJ of SC then not, went to UK to prove the crimes against MQM now in bed with them and the list goes on and on. IK is expert in political summersaults and opportunism. It is about time Pakistanis should see who is openly with the criminals and terrorists and who is not.
All the UK press have reported Altaf Hussain as having been arrested. But here the MQM is denying the news and putting out fake and misleading statements.
He is under arrest. Period. Stop trying to deny that fact. Unfortunately, it is not for what his mafia has done to Karachi or the number of people killed by his goons.
What a prophetic vision Mirza Ghalib had: "Sharam tum ko magar naheen a'ati Ghalib."
Wow the amount of terror in Sindh... It's like Karachi has come to stand still. Of course if not, black sheep's will go break anything that's operational... Does England have capital punishment?
How sad that a bunch of low level criminals is dragging down whole country to the bottom of the pit; pathetic!
Wow the amount of recommendations... It's a record! Shows how much people hate him.
The police in UK are very honest and do not bow to any political leader. everyone is equal before the law in UK, unlike in Pakistan. I hope Karachi and Karachites stay safe.
Pakistan saved!
Finally the Time has come to close this bad chapter from the history of pakistan.
Finally. The begining of the end.
Chickens coming home to roost. I hope justice is done.
Do not release him for at least 50 years..Please
