MUZAFFARABAD:

The police have arrested the prime accused, who allegedly kidnapped and later gang-raped a 10-year-old girl in the dense forests of Neelum Valley, AJK, for two days.

According to the police, the family of the girl, N*, approached Lawat Police Station and lodged an FIR against one of their neighbours, Muhammad Aslam, for allegedly abducting their daughter and raping her together with his friends.

The report said Aslam’s sister had called N* to her house, from where Aslam and his friends Hamaza, Yousaf, Shahreen, Hameed  and Tariq took her to the forests.

The police said the alleged rapist Aslam later approached the girl’s family and said he was ready to hand over the daughter to them if they promised not to report the incident to the police.

However, the girl’s family – after getting her back – went to Lawat Police Satation and registered an FIR against the alleged rapist and his friends.

The police raided the area and arrested the alleged rapist Aslam and his friend Hamza. Asalm, later, confessed to the crime while the other accused are still at large and have succeeded to get pre-arrest bails.

An initial medical report has established the rape attempt, the police said.

The victim’s father has appealed to AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, IGP Malik Khuda Bukh Awan and Chief Justice of AJK Supreme Court Muhammad Azam for justice.

Khurram Jamal Shahid | 10 years ago | Reply The Child Rights Movement (CRM) Kashmir Chapter is concerned over the rape of child girl in Neelum. CRM members met the press and expressed their grief and serious concern about the matter. While talking with Daily Heights its member organizations (SDO Kashmir, GPN, DDO, MPAP, KIO, CCDF Neelum, and Press for Peace) have demanded that the government authorities should take solid steps to punish the criminals and provide justice to the alleged girl and her family. If such cases are not properly taken into account on urgent basis, the vulnerability will create worse situation on the child rights; said Muhammad Akbar from DDO. He further added that we have met with the family and “DDO” will support her for justice through DDO legal Aid Cell. The CRM coordinator Khurram Jamal Shahid has told that the citizens of Kashmir should stand up and raise their voices for their rights. “Its right time to stand up, speak up and Act now”. He urged that AJ&K government should legislate and enact the Child Protection Bill to ensure the Rights of Kashmiri Children. So as under that law the citizens may pursue for getting justice under state provided laws.
