MUZAFFARABAD: The Planning Commission has refused to release funds for a green cab scheme in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. AJK Transport Minister Tahir Khokhar told The Express Tribune that the funds were allocated for the project in the 2013-14 budget under the Special Development Programme. He appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to intervene and help get the funds released. “The allocated funds were not released in the fiscal year 2012-13, but a handsome amount was allocated for the project under the Special Development Programme in 2013-14. But at the end of the fiscal year, the Planning Commission rejected the scheme, which is unacceptable for the people of AJK,” the minister said. “We will protest against the rejection of the Green Cab Scheme, which is meant to provide better transport facilities in AJK,” he added. He said though the PML-N is not in power in AJK, the party leadership should think broadly to promote national integration and interprovincial harmony.
