DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Three alleged members of the Laadi gang met the district police officer (DPO) on Monday and said that they were ready to face the cases against them but demanded that they should not face political victimisation.

Muhammad Bakhsh Laadi, Ishaq Laadi, Zafar Laadi met Dera Ghazi Khan District Police Officer (DPO) Ghulam Mubashar Maikan after getting pre-arrest bail and said that they wanted him to ensure that they got justice. The gang members were wanted in several cases of murder and robbery in Dera Ghazi Khan. The three alleged criminals said that they had agreed to cooperate with the police after being assured that they would not be charged with any crime that they had not committed.

The DPO addressed a press conference at his office and said that the police had been pursuing the gang and had also conveyed to its members through various channels that if they surrendered they would be dealt with justly and the law enforcement agencies would ensure that their cases were decided on merit.

Muhammad Bakhsh Laadi said he was hopeful that under the DPO’s supervision they would get justice. He said that they would ask 40 other members of the Laadi tribe facing various criminal charges to surrender if the police kept their word. The DPO said the police expected that the surrender would have a positive effect on the law and order situation. The DPO said there had been a clear decrease in the crime rate in the area compared to a few months earlier because of police efforts.

The DPO assured the three men that no false cases would be lodged against them and that he would monitor all the cases personally. He said that they would be prosecuted only in those cases where police had evidence against them.

Separately, talking to The Express Tribune, their lawyer Sher Muhammad Khosa said that the three men had demanded protection against false cases and political victimisation. Cantonment Deputy Superintendent Qalb-e-Abbas, Kot Mubarak Station House Officer (SHO) Mirza Muhammad Safdar, Shah Sadar Din SHO Farhat Rasool, Kala SHO Nasarullah Babar, and other police officials were also present at the press conference.
