Economic Survey: Gas production witnesses negative growth

ISLAMABAD: The gas production has witnessed negative growth of 1.3 per cent during July-March 2013-14, reveals Economic Survey 2013-14.

According to the survey released here on Monday, the total gas production stands at 1124.8 billion cubic feet during July-March 2013-14 against 1139.2 billion cubic feet in corresponding period of last year.

The share of gas consumption was as follow: Transport (CNG) - 7 per cent, households - 23 per cent, commercial - 3.1 per cent, industry - 21.7 per cent, power - 26.1 per cent and fertilizer - 19 per cent.

The share of gas supply to power, commercial, CNG, industry dropped whereas supply to fertilizer was enhanced from 15.2 to 19 per cent in ongoing financial year. In financial year 2012-13, CNG sector got 8.2 per cent, commercial 3.3 per cent, industry 22.6 per cent and power 27.5 per cent.

However, local crude extraction posted a growth of 12 per cent as it stood at 23 million barrels during July-March compared to 20.5 million barrels in corresponding period last year. The import of crude oil remained 44.9 million barrels during July-March 2013-14 against 40 million barrels in corresponding period last year posting a growth of 11 per cent.
