LAHORE:

Completion of flyovers at Chungi Amar Sidhu and Qainchi is likely to be delayed by two weeks, The Express Tribune has learnt.

The work on the two bridges was started in February as part of a project to provide a signal-free corridor for the Metro Bus Service.

The bridges were to be built by May end at a cost of Rs3.65 billion. The construction of adjacent service roads is to cost an additional Rs2.23 billion.

The work on the bridges had been prolonged due to delay in shifting of electricity poles on the service roads, said officials from the Engineering Wing of the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA).

Twenty-eight pylons between the Kamahan-Kot Lakhpat section of Ferozpur Road had not been removed so far, the officials said on condition of anonymity.

They said the work on bridges would be completed after the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) removed the poles.

The Lesco project director tasked with removing the pylons could not be reached for comment.

TEPA Additional Chief Engineer Khalid Alvi said the bridges would be built on time. “We are ahead of the schedule… the bridges would be built within a week of the removal of the poles,” he told The Express Tribune.
