Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday announced that a Dolphin Unit would be started in the Punjab Police along the pattern of Dolphin Unit in Turkey.
He said officials would be inducted to the unit on merit.
He said the Dolphin Unit would help eradicate street crime from the province.
He was talking to a delegation of the national police of Turkey. The delegation was led by Mustafa Ozguler.
Matters related to the dolphin unit and an integrated command and control centre were discussed during the meeting.
MPA Shuja Khanzada, inspector general of police, the home secretary and the Punjab Information Technology Board chairman were also present.
Sharif said Pakistan and Turkey had strong cultural ties.
He said that cordial relations between the two countries had developed into stronger economic ties.
He said the cooperation of the Turkish police in setting up the Dolphin Unit and training the Punjab Police was a welcome step which would further cement Pakistan-Turkey relations.
He said a team of the Dolphin Unit would consist of four police officials. He said Turkish police experts would train officials of the Dolphin Unit. He said the dolphin unit would start working at the end the year.
Sharif said Turkish police experts would also prepare master trainers for the training of officials of the Dolphin Unit.
He said the command and control centre in Lahore would be completed along the pattern of the command and control centre in Istanbul.
He said modern equipment would be installed at the centre.
He said the centre would be linked to CCTV cameras installed arund the city.
The chief minister said 1,800 spots had been selected for installation of cameras in Lahore. He said command and control centre would also be completed by the end of the year.
Ozguler said the Turkish government was looking forward to working with the Punjab government.
He said all possible cooperation would be extended to the Punjab government for the command and control project and the Dolphin Unit.

No gimmiks will work unless police is de politicized and allowed to grow into an autonomous institution.
Yet another answer to the kidnapping of their MPA. This political party would always design a new stunt to cover up their poor governance..... In the same way, Islamabad has been handed over to Rangers after F-6 and G-9 blasts, but no investigation came out but Rangers petrolling which would be aimed at announcing the fact that "KARWAYI DAAL DI HAI"......

But Naan League has been telling us all along that there had been no street crime in Punjab. Seems like elite force has proven to be useless. After dolphin unit, what would be next gimmick? A "Whale Unit"?

the amount which u r giving for consultancy can be used more efficiently if you give if to concerned depts or max a Pak university. Our dept have the capacity to do much better with these $500,000 which you gave for Lahore Waste Mgmt Company. Can not we replicate it in Rwp - why do we have to pay again?

@Humza: I am sorry but Punjab does not remain best manage, only Lahore does. They take up our taxes and utilize it to develop Lahore, because for PML N, Lahore is Pakistan.

@Kala_bacha: Have you ever wondered why the Punjab remains the best managed, best governed and most stable province in Pakistan? Much of the credit goes to Shahbaz Sharif.

Why Shahbaz Sharif love to follow Turkey but is discouraging the local think-tank development.?. Why we cannot come up with our local solutions with local names.? I think we have enough brain to think and solve our problems on our own. Kindly be a Pioneer rather than a follower.
