A lady health worker (LHW) was injured when unidentified militants opened fire on her near her house in Ganjanu Kalay area on the city’s outskirts on Saturday.
Muhammad Aslam Khan, an official of the City police, said around 12:30pm Nazia Bibi, who works for an NGO, was returning home from her workplace when two armed men ambushed her while she was walking into her house. Bibi was shot and severely injured by the attackers who escaped before anyone could reach the scene.
Minhaj Ali, the woman’s father, told police that the attackers fled thinking she had been killed. Ali added after hearing the gunshots, he and other family members rushed outside and found Bibi lying on the ground near the gate. She was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where her condition was said to be stable.
Initial medical reports revealed that Bibi sustained two bullet wounds. “She was shot from a pistol,” the police official informed.
