30 children rescued after building collapse in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Thirty children have been pulled out from under debris of a collapsed building in Homak Town in Islamabad, Express News reported on Friday.

The children were buried under rubble when the tuition centre building collapsed this evening. Rawalpindi 1122 managed to pull out all the children.

Six children including the teacher were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical assistance. Two of the children are critical.

    Instead of building rubbish roads and buses, the government should heavily invest in disaster management and recovery departments and units. This 1122 service is awesome but little attention and investment can make it even better. They don’t seem to have stone cutting machinery or heavy-duty helicopters or fully equipped ambulances or other necessary equipment; that can be easily provided with 10-20 billion rupees. Same is the case with hospitals, poor people are dying of heat and lack of services in government hospitals.

    almost all buildings in Islamabad are poorly constructed using substandard material and shoddy techniques.

    Being in the vicinity at the time of accident, I managed few casualties at site. I must appreciate here the role of 1122 Rescue teams for timely and quick evacuation.Recommend
