MULTAN: Three children abandoned by their mother on a road in the middle of the night on Tuesday were taken in by their maternal grandmother on Wednesday. Police said Zareena Mai, 30, a resident of Tariqabad Colony, was a divorcee, formerly married to Muhammad Hameed, a resident of Muzaffargarh. The mother had custody of their three children. The youngest child was two years old and the eldest was four. On Tuesday night, Mai left them in a street in Tariqabad Colony. A resident of the area took them to the Bahauddin Zakriyah police station. The children led the police to their house where the mother refused to take them back. She said her husband should take responsibility for them as “she had had enough”. The children’s maternal grandmother arrived at the police station early in the morning to take the children. Police handed over the children to her after she gave a written assurance that she would take care of the children.
