According to AFP, Singh also said that, "there was discussion on trade and we noted that we were fully ready to fully normalise trade and economic relations. Both prime ministers expressed their interest in having this done as early as possible."

@rehan: I repeat my self, dress, in today's world, has nothing to do with being national. And heads of states/ political leaders are not school boys or sports team who wear some sort of uniform. I give up, be happy and declare that your PM is not national or some thing. Your will. Thanks.
@BRUISED INDIAN: "On your Chaiwala remark, my Respected Prime Minister & like all voters who voted him to power takes pride in his humble origins, however much you castigate his humble beginnings by passing distasteful........."
@Rex Minor.....I fully agree with Bruised Indian. I am sure it is beyond you to understand the meaning of Democracy Or some thing like ' government of the people by the people.....' You are so used to be ruled by Army and some time by landlords, Jirga lords, Jagirdars that you can not comprehend a "chaiwala" with his leadership ability and hard work can rise to lead a country that is the biggest democracy on earth to day. So Sir, be happy and keep simmering in your own world of ignorance.
@Rex Minor: I couldn't have expected a much intelligent reply than what your rebuttal was! I promised myself and another reader on ET today, that too in writing, that I shall not respond to hate or bigotry any further as I don't want to be cast in the same metal with the likes of you.
@danish: Who told you Kashmir is yours. If it is so why you had to attack J&K in 1947, when it was a free state, to capture it? You live in imaginary castles built on propaganda. read international books and reviews.
@Rudra: Thanks Rudra. I appreciate. Regards.
@Bharat: Finally u admit 2 nation theory......great
@R.R: And tell your Indian government and approximately 600,000 army troops to leave Kashmir and give the Kashmiri people the plebiscite right,not elections' drama on the gunpoint,to choose their affiliation either with India or Pakistan or their own separate and independent state like the other independent states of the world....
Sans Kashmir issue's resolution peaceful talks between Pakistan-India can never be succeeded and fruitful and unfortunately India considers Kashmir its integral part instead of disputed area and resolvable on the top most priority basis......
@rex minor you are another troll like vinsin. On your comment "abyss" I suggest both of you to come out of deluded tunnel ya'll are in. World is much beautful place you know.
@VINOD: Give us back our Kashmir and the sky is the limit for our relationship..
@Syed:

@BRUISED INDIAN:

@Adds: Tribune: Kindly let this through as a rebuttal and an informative post. Modi is wearing a Kurta and chooridar: An Indian attire even before Islam was founded. In fact, cotton and cotton textiles were invented in India several thousand years ago. In languages all the current languages in Pakistan have a non-Muslim (Indic, Indo-European and Indo-Iranian) background. Even Persian is an Indo-European language and NOT related to Arabic, even if the writing system has been changed to an Arabic script. The Arabic script also derives from non-Muslim roots: namely Aramaic and Phoenician; and the so-called Arabic numbers are Indian. The Arabs call them Hindi/Hindu numbers, which are written from left to right, even in Arabic. Learn some facts before posting your claims.
ET ET,, be fair to My response, @Aakash: First of all I think I should translate my first comment in Hindi, Where I mentioned Pakistani shalwar Kamiz? I said muslim dress code. Bcoz you r secular state with no religious recognition.. nd we are Islamic republic owning Islamic tradition and culture, so we own it. What you wear before Muslims invasion.. Man Majorly shirtless and one dhoti, and women wears choli dhoti.. And see and search ancient indian sculptures to know more about your history. http://fashion-history.lovetoknow.com/clothing-around-world/south-asia-history-dress And FYI, Nehru is not a part of ancient history he is a part of current history, Bcoz u know Nehru you were told its Nehru jacket it is not told that Nehru firstly wears muslim Pajama Kurta and then On it he wears a jacket that was used 100 years earlier by Turks and Muslims. And the list you have sent you know what you are told about algorithm and algebra but world knows it with the name of AL-KHWARIZMI, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorithm http://www.unhas.ac.id/rhiza/arsip/saintis/khawariz.html Please ask your teachers to tell you truth, Say no to living in fool’s Paradise. @Gp65:
He was not wearing Shalwar??? Shalwar kameez, Jacket, Kurta, Pajama, All are Muslims Dress code, And great to see that you admitted that Muslims has major contribution towards your civilization.
@Rudra: Please Firstly read it carefully before rebutting, And we are neither inferior Nor superior All humans are equal (No shadur, Barhamin, kashtari ).. we are Pakistani after but firstly we are Muslims, With a population of 2.5 billion Around globe, And Pakistan cultures does not starts from 1947,it starts from the advent of Islam, recognizing Islam as state religion, So all Islamic contribution is also the inheritance of Muslims, Don’t do fake claim and misguide world on channel like national geographic, that chicken baryani , karahi, tikka, belongs to hindus and a secular with no cultural recognition which actually belongs to Muslims. http://www.indianfoodgourmet.com/Indian-Food-101/Historical-Influences/indian-food-historical-influences.html
@SachaKaka: Regardless of what he wears what kind of a PM India must have? Is Modi that? We shall see. Allama Iqbal says it best:- Nigah buland sukhan dilnawaz jaan pur soz/Yahi hai rakht-e-safar meer-e-kaarvaan ke liye//Lofty vision, heart-warming speech and a soul on fire/Of the Leader of the Caravan that is all we require.
@vinod he said "there are no more vegetarians" all are non vegetarians. That is why I corrected him its not true. I do know some are veg and non veg depending upon their state and other factors like no fisherman was vegetarian since time immemorial. But that doesn't discount the fact that all states have different culture veg/non veg according to their beliefs. Don't know why he was getting into specific religious angle. That was my point.
@Rudra: On what basis you have said "you are factually wrong to say all Hindus are non vegetarian they are not." Hindus are vegetarian and non vegetarian both from time immemorial. "Bali" that is offering life of animals (including even horse in Ashwa megh Yagya) in various forms of Puja and Yagya has been a well known fact. What do you think Kings right from Bharat and Dashrath were hunting for hunting sake?
@Rana: Indians have been in this beautiful place long before the Muslim raiders came. So, please read about the history before making such rude statements.
Right from the time of Harappa and beyond what ever has happened on this subcontinent and who ever has come here is our history and is an Indian.
@sachakaka you are factually wrong to say all Hindus are non vegetarian they are not. "Indians are obsessed with Muslim food" get out of your inflated ego. Indians are obsessed with indian food whether it is (all state Gujarati,Marathi,Tamil etc cuisines having influence of Sikh,Hindu,Jain,Parsi,Muslims,Christian originated within india influence) we don't have balochi ,gilgit baltistan etc or any Pakistani influence so where does Pakistan even come into the picture? Are you dreaming? Just shows how deep you suffer from inferior complex to force others to like you. Those other things you mentioned belonged to indian Muslims -india. Not Pakistanis look into your our country culture than claim other country's. The unique Temples, ,Jain derraser,buddhist shrines,mosques, church's,forts,food,language,culture,cloths originated in states of india belong to indians not outsider Pakistanis. So why are you claiming culture coming from india when you separated at 1947?
@Wajahat Hussain: Evidence provided by might not be accepted in Pakistan but those evidence are accepted by rest of the world and banned his organization... due to persons like him and support he is getting from your establishment is making the world to think bad of Pakistan.
@hmm:
'For those calling annexation..' Could you please provide a solid reference (not Wikipedia or youtube or another newspaper from Pakistan) for this statement? what you have written is about as believable as a statement that everybody is thrilled and look forward to a vacation in a place infested with Ebola or Plague or for that matter polio!
@Rex Minor: one full strength Prozac coming your way. Going by your theory then Pakistan needs to shift their entire Muslim population to Turkey Iran or the Mid East! After all you're the progeny of occupying armies / invaders (read plunderers, thieves and rapists). Today where you stand was Hindu land so be good to your word and move it.
Point is, no one gives a damn today on what you claim on Kashmir! If East Timor could be given independence and so could South Sudan then why is it so difficult for Pakistan to get Kashmir? Answer is plain and simple - you have no moral right asking for it. You might want to raise the proverbial plebiscite demand after reading my comment- ok in that case have your tribals and Army go back go to lines pre1947 and then let's call for it!
On your Chaiwala remark, my Respected Prime Minister & like all voters who voted him to power takes pride in his humble origins, however much you castigate his humble beginnings by passing distasteful Personal comments it does one thing only - makes you look silly and outright childish on a public forum.
Nawaz sahab has the time to visit Imam Bukhari of Jama Masjid... he also has time to meet Vajpayee... but NO TIME to meet his own KASHMIRI "bretheren" (i.e. the Hurriyat) who are the symbols we are told of the "incomplete agenda of Pakistan/Partition" ...??? Not only this, Nawaz Sahab does not even mention Kashmir in the 3-4 minute bite he gave to the Press after the one-to-one meet with Mr. Modi...? This only looks to me, as a Kashmiri, as a diplomatic version of surrender just like the military version done by Gen Niazi so many years ago...
@ModiFied:
Even if the masqureding stops and the institution of army is not reformed, into a nationalised defense force and conscription not introduced, how in heavens name a country can continue to afford one of the largest army in the world, its officer corps retiring every day a large number of officers with handsome pension and other benefits?
Rex Minor
The contrahands do not need peace talks but a peace treaty between the two; Does the BJP high priest agrees to the foreging of occupation in muslim majority state, the principal on which two Nations were established? If the answer is negative then the fate of the two countries is not in the hands of chaiwala or Sharif enterprises but with the military!
Rex Minor
I have written to PM Modi about daily ceremony at Wagah border which smacks nothing but naked hostility between two nations. Format of that ceremony needs to be changed to look friendly. Also I have written to him to redesign the wagah border into a circular stadium, with half in Pakistan and half in India. This stadium can be used for joint Indo-Pak cultural and sport events. Hope my suggestion reaches his table. I am very hopeful that some thing will change at Wagah border.
I'm glad mian sahib didn't do a Q&A with the press. He would have embarrassed everyone.
@kulwant singh: stop the false equivalence. As despicable as Togadia is, he does not talk about flying Indian flag from Islamabad.
@hmm: Funny who wants Pakistan, even if some one gives Pakistan for free of cost also nobody wants it... we are not at all interested in annexing Pakistan let Pakistanis themselves enjoy with it. Live and Let Live, don't disturb us with your terrorist, thats it nothing else we are expecting from Pakistan. If Pakistan wants friendly relationship with us, we are ready for it, if Pakistan wants to do business with us we are ready for it.... but strictly no terror business, in that case we don't want to have any kind of relationship with Pakistan
Terrorism, War & Annexation, these rhetoric are not good for even timepass.India or Pakistan nobody should even try even in dream to harm onanother. As saying goes that if fire brokes out in neighbor, it also engulfes you. So we should learn to live like brothers who happened to have separated and have divided ancestral properties. We should be allowed to visit both countries should taste of oneanother's mouthwtering recepe and goback peacefully admiring delicacies. Has anybody got anything worth of 67 years animosity???
@Rex Minor: He must have achieved his real objective of making business deals for which he apparently took his businessman son along on this "state" visit
@Rana: with media and government like this we can actually expecting them handing over the whole country to their Indian "friends" they are so impressed of
@hmm what ever you have been doing is fine with us. Keep doing them. let's see where you go! it looks like Pakistan is going places. we are ok with status quo.
Dear ET - you publish every Indian comment but won't publish mine ever - whats wrong with what I said in my last comment that you didnt publish - Here it is again - "At the end of the day, nothing changed. It was simply a symbolic gesture from PM Modi to invite PM Sharif which he reciprocated. NS went a gesture of goodwill, met with Modi, and got handed a list of the usual demands from India which was highly uncalled for in the first meeting that everyone in Pakistan was hoping was going to be a cordial, get-to-know each other meeting without touching upon sensitive issues right in the first 45 min meeting. The Indian foreign ministry's statement after the meeting was deflating to the public mood of optimism in ties, where the spokesperson started off with how Modi demanded 5 steps from Pakistan and then oh, we agreed (possibly) to meet at foreign secretary level and Modi agreed to visit all SAARC countries (possibly). I am 40 years old - the number of times I have seen and heard this, I couldn't count on the fingers of both hands. Nothing new here- just a drama for the international media. There was a reason why NS just gave a 2 minutes "hey thanks for inviting me and I look forward to great relations" formality statement to the Indian media with a 2 hour delay and no Q and A session. Yesterday, the way NS was greeted at the ceremony, I thought there would be a change in Indian attitude - sad to say, somethings will never change and we should live with that. As for the CIA puppet mayor of Kabul who owes his existence to Pakistan making stupid statements about LeT attacking the Indian consulate in Herat - all I can do is laugh at him and ask him to please please take back the 2 million plus afghan refugees that Pak has been accommodating for the last 30 plus years. Cheers. "
Im impressed by the simplicity and decency of the Indian leadership. They are tied with their culture and their originality prevails everywhere, and we...............................................inferiority complex.
@Vinod : I am not talking about ordinary or normal peoples , I am talking about representing country by the head of state. Normally at every level we represent our self through some means that for example use different color outfit in sports. Well keeping this a side let's hope for better future of people from both sides.
@Rudra: hain loo jee... Nehru was also fan of muslims Another big hypocrite... Nehru was between 18-19 century, and Muslim history starts from 7th century in indo Pak... Not only 70% of india wears now muslim shalwar Kameez but They also are obssesed of muslim food. Now they are no more vegetarians. And enjoy Muslim chiken baryani, seekh kabab, chiken karahi etc... So Please read history or if cant read so go and see taj Mahal they will show you what muslims have given you... !!
The issue of Nawaz Sharif's clothes is a red herring. @Sachakaka- First of all Modi isn't wearing shalwar. Secondly even if he was wearing something that was introduced to. The subcontinent by Muslims - so? This way of dressing has a long Indian tradition. We do not reject Ondian traditions simoly because they were not initiated by Hindus. The Ashok pillars at Sarnath, Taj Mahal, the cathedrals of Goa, the Golden temple are as much our heritage as Indians as the meenakshi temple.
The real fact is that world economy is growing very fast. India and Pakistan are two countries having plenty of natural resources to grew. But what happen is that we are using majority of our budget amount for defence. Why ? We are not believing each other.
But this is a new beginning. I think we youngsters in both India and Pakistan will come together and interact with in a common platform. We can share our ideas, dreams and help each other.
Hope this is the real time for the beginning..
@Rana: Tell your army not to violate the cease fire, and hide behind you, they do that since, they know that you will become the future Indian citizen one day so no need to care for you, while, you keep looking outside the window and wishing bad for Jammu, a motor shell might land on your face, be careful what you wish for, my dear future Indian citizen. Tell those cowards to go and fight in North West where the Afghans are paying them back in the same coin, by beheading them, they pay bribes and get plum postings at POK or Attari border where the Indians are very friendly.
There is only one chance for true peace.The muslims of India should go to Pakistan and the hindus of Pakistan should come to India
I am sure this is the only way to enforce true peace
Can the government be more truthful and share with Pakistanis what was discussed? Indian media outlets report differently and say Modi focussed only on terrorism. -implying this is the only agenda item.
@Ch. Allah Daad: Mian Sahib looks very..., healthy, wealthy and symbol of a nation which is developing at a very fast pace. His shining face is a sign of our great future.
Propaganda aside, all these are signs of a prospering and thriving family empire, not of a nation. If you need to look at the prosperity of the nation, go look at malnourished children, handicapped by polio, women being raped in the moving cars, or bludgeoned to death in front of the high court, or infants blown up, or an economy crippled by energy shortages while the royal family continues to thrive and mian manshas showering in dollars. And that is not a sign of a healthy nation with a shiny future.
@Adds: India is a very nice neighbor, that's why they help dismember East Pakistan! Do you have any credible evidence that Hafiz Saeed sahib is a terrorist; what ever India provided as evidence is not acceptable to Pakistani courts! Please arrange an international court of justice with independent jurists to convict him? The evidence we provided on Baluchistan is again not acceptable to India whereas any terrorist thing is ended up on Pakistan - Great!
@hmm: Modi has visited China four times who is you best friend as Chines to refuse visa to Modi rest assured he will visit UK USA and all other countries in the coming days. YOU carry on you business.
@hmm: My dear brother Salam, there is no dearth of Zaid Hamid and Parveen Togdias in both countries but the common man never likes them, we want peace and yes that too from the core of our hearts. The common man wants work, health facilities, education for children because only peace is the need of the hour, Rest assured India has no such plans Pakistan is reality and every one knows that, We fully regard your sovereignty , We have been hating each other for the last 67 years but we got nothing buy poverty and miseries for common man,let us move forward and show the world that we can coexist and prosperous like USA and Canada. UK and France and other European countries faught against each other but now they have made European union, why cant we do it. With best wishes for all my Pakistani brothers and sisters.
So Nawaz again use parchi to speak.
@Sachakaka. Sorry to burst your bubble but achkan dress-wear was one of the dress wear of monarchs Sikhs,Marathas and Rajput along with Muslim rulers in north india. Have you forgotten its an indian attire? Your country didn't even exist till 67 years back how can you solely claim it? Our country is five thousand years old. Its known in the world as Nehru jackets famously worn by the Beatles band and others. By your logic you should not use computers and another gadgets because it has coding system contains zero. Which was invented by indians and Hindus. Or buttons,shampoo etc You attempt to be superior only exposes how deeply you suffer from inferior complex. Here educate yourself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ListofIndianinventionsand_discoveries http://www.ranker.com/list/list-of-indian-inventions-and-discoveries/wayne-szalinski?page=1 http://www.savehinduism.in/stories/article/864.html ET be fair and allow me to respond.
@Rex Minor: When will you become Rex Major
@Rehan: "Why our prime minister didn’t wear national dress? Is he ashamed of it ?, when our leaders not showing nationalism then how come they convert peoples into nation." Why do intelligent people like you waste time on such meaningless thinking. Tell me in today's world how does it matter who wears what. Chinese, Japanese and most of other people and their leaders wear western suits and do you think they are not national. Tell me what is your opinion about those who use toilet paper, eat with fork and knife, use western gadgets in their kitchen and sit on table and chair to eat "Lunch & Dinner"? Sir, are they all NOT NATIONAL.
@sachakaka he's wearing nehru jacket suit not shalwar.
To all those who have no point except to criticize Mian Sahib's attire.. Mian Sahib looks very smart, healthy, wealthy and symbol of a nation which is developing at a very fast pace. His shining face is a sign of our great future. Its human nature that a person who wears splendid dress attracts the attention of everyone and becomes centre of the occasion. Well done Mian Sahib for making us proud.
Height of hypocrisy. Modi hates Muslims but wears Muslim Shalwar Kameez introduced by muslims in indo Pak.
@hmm: If the evidences against India are not baseless, why not presented in the UN.
The future of 1.5 billion people comes down to this. I wish both of our countries stop backstabbing each other and become as good neighbours as canada and US. PM nawaz will have a very tough news briefing though as he will be asked some very difficult questions.
Oh yes, the evidences against India are baseless but evidence against Pakistan are 100% true - who says that? Indians. Who are you to judge that? If I'm not mistaken, western countries already had banned Modi from entering their country fir the mass killings of Muslims in Gujarat 2002! And as for Indian involvement in Baluchistan & KPK, we were at peace before Indians took advantage of US invasion by opening consulates along Pak-Afghan border, which was unthinkable before 2002 during Taliban era. Since then Pakistan has been suffering at the hands of Indian funded terror groups via Afghanistan. Soon those terrorist sponsoring consulates will be dealt with the help of Afghan warlords as US leaves by the end of 2014. Its an open evidence that since Indians consulates opened in Afghanistan, post afghan invasion 2002, we've seen surge in terrorism. Worry about post 2014 scenario, & stop preaching us that Indians are angels, we know what you've been doing but make no mistake, we are no East Pakistan, patience is running out in Kashmir & Pakistan. Running away from peace talks is childish, Indians have to grow up & be realist.
@hmm:
People like you should stick to cheering for clueless muppets like Imran Khan (who I regrettably voted for last May, never again). The fact is that Pakistan is on the wrong side of history in most matters of foreign policy while India isn't - and the fact that Modi seems to be veering away from his anti-Pakistan tirades suggests that despite his rhetoric he's practical about ground realities, I hope Nawaz Sharif makes the best of it and doesn't cave into pressure from the nefarious designs of our deep state establishment.
@vinsin stop trolling.
I hope peace prevails within Pakistan, within India and between both countries.
I am a Pakistani Muslim but I love all Humans of whatever country, race, ethnic origin, religion, etc...and being friendly with your neighbour as well as being good to all humans (and other living beings also!) is a trait loved by Allah.
@Rana, You can't, you can never will. Meanwhile we have the power take back PoK.
If Nawaz Sharif only has some self respect, comming to India, and being dictated what to do with respect to terrorism. Now search for nice reasons to control your military leadership and pacify LET founder. Ths is what happens to countries Like pakistan which supports terrorist activitirs.
Why our prime minister didn't wear national dress? Is he ashamed of it ?, when our leaders not showing nationalism then how come they convert peoples into nation.
Is there any message in RED tie ?
@hmm: One simple requirement that is in true interest of both the countries. Close down terror camps in Pakistan importing terror to other countries. And sky is the limit of our relations
@karpakarajan v chettiar: We are not brothers, we are two nation theory. World is only uniting b/w muslims and non-muslim countries. If you don't want war then accept Islam. Accept demands of Indian Muslims first.
@hmm nobody here wants to waste time and resources to disintegrate you, your own people are doing that job pretty well. Plus it's not in india's interest to have destabilised nuclear neighbour split into more dangerous fraction countries. Big threat to us. No evidence has been given in your territory involvement by us, just conspiracy and assumptions no evidence shared on your media, ours or world. But mumbai,parliament,kargil, 5 consulate attack,hijack plane,beheading on border have western agency,afgan and indian proofs as well as live caught terrorist,confession,tapes. Recent Herat attack did you hear karzai speak who was behind it? Today too loc was violated by firing by your side when nawaz meeting was on. India has one demand end all terror machines and we can sit and talk. No point discussing peace and stuff when you betray and gun us side by side at the same time..

@hmm Sir , how many times do we have to tell you that Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist and is recognized worldwide for his terrorist activities . He also carries a $10 million bounty on his head and roams around freely in Pakistan . He must be a strategic asset for your country but he is a terrorist for other countries. As far as Indian involvement in Balochistan is concerned NO credible evidence is there that Indians are involved in Balochistan . For once please think beyond useless facts and conspiracy theories which are well appreciated in Pakistan . India has always wanted to be a nice neighbour , but there are times when things get out of hand and we become tough . We are sure two countries can be good friends but that is only possible when the terror factory in Pakistan stops.
Looks like Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's head is grown a bit larger after his 3rd time elected for PM. I was following for quite a while & he never wears Pakistani attire and shown a cheekiness by wearing tie of different colors rather than Bright Green of Pakistan. On the other hand Modi is well dressed in Official Indian attire & looks much graceful than Nawaz Shariff.
Nawaz is looking like a Business Executive and Modi is looking like a Head of State.
Full Marks to Modi. PML-N listening? anyone?
regards,
Nawaz should have embraced his cousin, not simply shake hands with the man accused for being responsible for supporting the murder of thousands of citizens on his watch. They both have one thing in common, economy and business, the golden calve, and not the human.

@karpakarajan v chettiar: So, explain your feelings about Sri Lanka, brother!
Whenever I look at Indian held Kashmir from my village facing Jammu, the only raw feeling I always have is to when and how we might be able to kick Indians out of our beautiful place!
Looking at the photograph above I can see Modi has a strong grip. Good for India to have this man Modi as its PM.
Wellcome and Thank you. India and Pakistan
I am still at a loss on what these brothers (neighbours) are fighting on; When some parts of the world are uniting for synergy; these two brothers seem to be losing their resources fighting against each other.
Why is he not wearing a sherwani?
Can we look forward to all outstanding issues being resolved?
This meetings seems to be concentrating on breaking the trade barriers first, but will open to door for further rounds of talks.
All we can do is "hope", but I expect nothing from this meeting. The onus is now on India, whether they want to resume the dialogue process or just keep things as it is and deteriorate over the coming months & years. Pakistan wants dialogue, what does India want? And no don't say "hafiz saeed", because we've already given evidences about the Indian involvement in Balochistan & KPK, but we never walked away from dialogue. I expect India to rise above this immature attitude, no one is angel around here, show us your heart is as big as the size of your country. And for those calling for annexation of Pakistan, i can just laugh at you Indians, if India tries to do that then we're going to take you down with us as well, choice is yours - peace or war?
Obviously ten mins extra either countries that have problems specially after karzai statement on Herat attack.
