17 die as truck plunges into Swat River near Kalam

Seven injured in tragic accident, shifted to Mingora Saidu Shareef hospital for treatment.

SWAT: At least 17 people were killed and seven others injured when a truck carrying dozens of passengers plunged into the Swat River at Pashmal near Kalam, Express News reported on Tuesday morning.

The deceased included 5 women and 11 children according to SHO Shakil Ahmed.

Express News correspondent Shireen Zada reported that the truck carrying members of three families fell into the river owing to the poor condition of the road.

Locals immediately helped with the rescue operation and managed to pull out bodies from the river. Police and rescue teams are still looking for survivors.

The injured were shifted to Mingora Saidu Shareef hospital for medical assistance.
