FAISALABAD:

A shepherd died from an electric shock when an 11-KV wire fell on him on Monday.

Following the incident, some of his relatives staged a demonstration against the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and demanded action against the Satiana sub divisional Officer (SDO).

Naveed Akram, one of the protestors, told newsmen that Muhammad Sadiq, 55, was herding his cattle near the seepage drain Saim Nehar when an 11-KV wire fell on him. He said Sadiq died on the spot.  Another protestor, Rafiq Anjum said electric wires broke due to negligence of the FESCO divisional staff.

The protestors put Sadiq’s body in the middle of Samundri-Faisalabad Road and blocked the road for traffic. Some of the protestors, holding clubs, rods and hockey sticks, attacked some vehicles. They also burnt tyres at Faisalabad-Sammundri Road. Samundri Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Ejaz Hussain and Saddar Samundri station house officer (SHO) reached the scene and pacified protestors by assuring them that action would be taken against those responsible.  The demonstrators then called of their protest and dispersed. Later, the police dispatched the body to the mortuary for post-mortem.
