Saving the day: Police foil robbery, arrest suspect

Police officials said that at least four armed robbers arrived at the bank.

KARACHI: The police claimed to have foiled a robbery attempt at the Askari Bank located near North Nazimabad’s Five-Star Chowrangi, within the jurisdiction of Taimuria police station, on Monday. Police officials said that at least four armed robbers arrived at the bank. Upon receiving the information, police officials and personnel reached the bank and tried to apprehend the criminals. However, the robbers resorted to indiscriminate firing in an attempt to escape. Three of the robbers managed to escape under the cover of firing while the fourth, Bilal, was wounded and arrested. A pistol was also recovered from his possession. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that Bilal is a proclaimed offender and is wanted for various crimes, including murder. An FIR was registered and further investigation is underway. Taking notice of the police action, newly appointed Karachi police chief AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo has announced a cash reward of Rs100,000 and commendation certificates for the police party.
