KARACHI:

Pakistan’s Mohammad Sajjad, who won the IBSF World Snooker Team Championship along with Mohammad Asif, is hoping that they will finally get their overdue prize money from the government soon.

Sajjad spoke after the recent development in which Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, is likely to meet both the players and Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) President Alamgir Sheikh at the end of May.

“This is the third time we’re hearing that the PM will be meeting us to honour us for our world championship title, and given his busy schedule, this is really heartening,” Sajjad told The Express Tribune.

“This time we’re hoping that we’ll have an audience with him. It’s really important to honour champions on time to keep them motivated.”

Recently, the PBSA said through a press release that the PM’s Secretariat has forwarded a copy of the letter to Shaikh, which has been addressed to the Director General, Pakistan Sports in Islamabad. The letter requests for the release of cash awards as per the sports policy of the government to the snooker players. The letter came in response to the plea that the PBSA had submitted to the PM for his kind consideration.

In response to the acceptance, the PBSA stated: “The association is thankful to the PM for his kind consideration to help players obtain their cash awards entitled for their achievements for the country.”
