Residents of a remote village in Kaghan Valley reported to the media on Saturday that ten of their houses had burnt to ashes. Mian Haroonur Rasheed, Mian Khani Zaman, Mian Fareed, Mian Sher Zaman, all residents of Rakh Makhair Mahli village, said they migrate annually to warmer pastures when heavy snow blocks access to their homes. This year, they had temporarily moved to a village in Jabi Balakot area and when they returned this month after the snow thawed, they found ten houses reduced to ashes. They claimed they had locked their houses, leaving their valuables behind. While they did not have a suspect in mind, they demanded police conduct an enquiry. They also demanded a permit granting permission to cut timber from nearby forestland for the reconstruction of their homes. Police confirmed their report, adding the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
