DPO Swat Sher Akbar said Bulbul was coming out of Mingora Cinema after a late-night show when the explosion occurred. The policeman added that he was accompanied by fellow actor Arbaz Khan and actress Nadia Gul.

According to Akbar, the owners of the car had accidentally left a lit cigarette in the vehicle which happened to be leaking CNG.

Talking to the media from Saidu Teaching Hospital, Bulbul said he heard two loud explosions, after which he fainted.

Doctors say he was not hit by shrapnel, but fell unconscious due to shock and hurt his leg in the process.

Bulbul was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar where he was said to be stable. The actor was discharged on Saturday afternoon.
