Ministerial Promise: ANF likely to get more funds, manpower

Chaudhry Nisar has directed ANF to control drug trafficking from across the border into Balochistan and K-P.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has directed Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to control drug trafficking from across the border into Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). The minister was talking to Director General ANF Major General Khawar Hanif who called on him on Thursday. Nisar appreciated the efforts of ANF due to which Pakistan was being declared a poppy free country for the last few years. DG ANF briefed the minister about the steps being taken by the force for prevention, seizures, prosecution and drug demand reduction of narcotics.  He highlighted the challenges being faced by ANF in intelligence acquisition, operational capability, manpower and budget constraints including the challenges emanating from drug situation in neighbouring countries. The minister assured that ban on recruitment in ANF would soon be lifted and its budgetary constraints would be addressed.
