Catching up: ‘Agri research will help feed world’s population’

Conference on stress on biotechnology and biology begins.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said on Wednesday that there was need to focus on research in agriculture.


He was addressing the inaugural session of a three-day international conference on Stress Biology and Biotechnology: Challenges and Management, organised by the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS).

Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman Dr Khalil Ibupoto, IAGS Director Dr Saleem Haider, University of Toronto Professor Munir Abu Haider, Professor Kausar Abdullah Malik, faculty members and students were present.

Kamran said the Faisalabad University of Agriculture was playing an important role for development of the agriculture sector.

Dr Saleem Haider said Pakistan faced environmental changes, poor agri-marketing system, problems of farmers, low quality pesticides and energy shortage. He said the conference should discuss these challenges and provide solutions.
