On the go: Police get mobile forensic unit

IGP Nasir Khan Durrani formally launched a new state-of-the-art mobile forensic unit at University Town model police station on Tuesday. According to a press release, the unit has been developed with assistance from the UK Department for International Development’s Aitebaar programme and will support investigative functions of University Town, Faqirabad and Gulbahar model police stations. The unit is equipped with specialised forensic equipment comprising fingerprint ID system, metal detectors, and kits for collecting blood, packaging, DNA evidence collection, narcotics analysis as well as other miscellaneous supplies for spot tests at the crime scene. The unit will lead to improved investigation capabilities of the police and more efficient prosecution of criminal cases, the police hope. Aitebaar is a four-year programme, funded by the UK government which supports the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in implementing a peace building strategy in the province.
