Convicted : Bomber awarded 125 years in prison

Anti-Terrorism Court awarded life imprisonment to a man convicted for planting a bomb at Faisalabad Railway Station.

FAISALABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge Ishtiaq Ahmad on Monday awarded life imprisonment on five counts to a man convicted for planting a bomb at Faisalabad Railway Station. The prosecution said Muhammad Ishaq, a resident of Lahore, had planted a bomb beneath a bench at Faisalabad Railway Station which exploded on August 7, 1996, killing eight people and injuring another 25. Ishaq was arrested by security agencies and handed over to the police. After recording statements of witnesses and examining the evidence, the judge awarded a total of 125 years of imprisonment to Ishaq and directed him to pay Rs1 million fine under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Explosives Act.
