MARDAN:

A five-kilogramme bomb planted by unidentified militants near the house of former PPP K-P president and ex-provincial minister Rahimdad Khan was defused by the bomb disposal unit (BDU) in Hathian, Mardan Monday morning.

SHO of Lond Khawar police, Fazil Khan, said he was informed by the house watchman about a suspicious-looking canister lying in front of the main gate of Rahimdad Khan’s hujra.

Fazil said he reached the site immediately and also called BDU. He added they surrounded the house while BDU personnel defused the explosive device.

The SHO pointed out this was third attempt to attack Rahimdad Khan’s residence, adding all such bids have been foiled by police through timely action.

Rahimdad Khan was not present at home at the time, but he had earlier said he was receiving threatening calls from unidentified people and had informed the government and police in this regard.
