Express November 01, 2010

Rawalpindi’s resistance finally ended as they went down to NBP by 172 runs on the final day at the Pindi Stadium.

Facing a 432-run target, Rawalpindi resumed on 95 for four but lasted another 47.4 overs. Wasim Khan completed his 10-wicket haul after he took four for 98 in the second innings. Muhammad Talha took five for 73 to go with his three wickets in the first innings.

Tense draw for SNGPL

Former champions SNGPL managed a draw with Karachi Blues. Chasing 367 to win, SNGPL survived day four as they reached 284 for nine with Adnan Akmal being the saviour for the departmental side. Akmal scored 106 and was well supported by Ali Waqas who made 94 and left the hosts desperately searching for the last wicket. Shahzad Khan ended with six for 112 but the performance was not enough as SNGPL managed to hold out for the draw.

ZTBL crush Sialkot

Meanwhile, Sialkot were not as lucky as SNGPL, as they were bowled out for 194 at the Jinnah Stadium, chasing a mammoth 365 to win against ZTBL. Mansoor Amjad scored 57 but Mohammad Khalil and Sohail Tanvir shared nine wickets between them to ensure a 170-run win for ZTBL.

PIA play out draw

PIA were content on playing out the 54 overs rather than go for the win against Islamabad. Needing 312 to win, PIA reached 175 for four as Agha Sabir made 78. Earlier, Islamabad declared at 324 for seven. Rauf Akbar made an unbeaten 64 and Raja Kashif scored 52 not out.

Dull draw for Faisalabad

Faisalabad got some much-needed batting practice in their second innings and managed 321 for seven against Wapda. Hasan Mahmood made a painstakingly slow 87 off 252 deliveries and Naved Latif hit a 149-ball 78 as Wapda stood and watched the match heading to an inevitable draw.
