AB de Villiers played an important knock for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they chased Chennai Super Kings to a defeat by five wickets in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday.

Man-of-the-match De Villiers said that the pitch was tough to bat on.

“It was probably one of the most difficult wickets,” said De Villiers.

“I looked foolish a couple of times but took it to the end. I was disappointed to get out at the right time.”

Chennai scored 138 runs for the loss of four wickets, courtesy Suresh Raina’s unbeaten 62 from 48 balls.

In reply, Bangalore chased the target with one ball remaining as Abu Nechim struck David Hussey for a boundary on the fifth ball of the last over. Earlier, De Villiers made full use of his drop catch  and hit three sixes in successive overs to make the cause easier for incoming Yuvraj Singh.
