A police constable was shot dead while another was injured when they were shot at during a routine snap-check near the Cantt police station on Saturday.
The slain policeman, Khuda Baksh, who suffered a fatal gunshot in his chest, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Another policeman, constable Aijaz Khushk, was also shot in the chest and abdomen and is undergoing surgery at Civil hospital. "The two policemen were checking vehicles near the police station when they were shot by armed men riding a motorcycle," said SSP Pir Fareed Jan Sarhindi.
Both the personnel worked for Rapid Response Force. According to the force’s in charge Inspector Malik Abbass, the two were performing duty at Auto Bahn Road, over three kilometers away from the place of attack, till 4 pm after which they left for Saddar area. The FIR of the incident has not been lodged as the postmortem report of deceased constable Khuda Baksh Chand is awaited.
