Jehangir, Taimur guide Pakistan to victory

Duo defeats defending champions Sri Lanka in golf event.

Salman Jehangir and Taimur Khan won the 53rd Amateur Golf Championship team title as they defeated Sri Lanka’s Sisri Kumara and P Hemanta at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in Lahore on Saturday.


The duo lifted the JR Jaewardne trophy, avenging last year’s loss to Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Punjab won the Inter-Association Team Trophy after three rounds as they defeated Sindh in a one-sided competition.

They scored 679 points, while Sindh secured the second position with 687 points and Federal finished third with 699 points. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan earned 702 and 733 points respectively to end the competition at the bottom of the table.

Punjab performed well on the last 18 holes to take the lead, while Sindh failed to catch up at the end of the day.

Punjab’s Muhammed Rehman scored 72 points, while Rawalpindis’ Ghazanfar Mehmood (74) and Mohsen Zafar (73) reflected the mastery and control over their game to topple Sindh, who were leading with the advantage of seven strokes at the beginning of the day.

In the individual competition, Multan’s Zulfiqar Ali led the board with the aggregate of 210 points, followed by Jehangir (225) and Mehmood (226).

On the other hand, Maryam Khan led the ladies event with a score of 166.
