The Punjab Assembly on Friday passed a resolution to condemn the sacrilegious episode of Geo TV’s morning show.
“The house strongly condemns the programme, titled Utho Jago Pakistan, presented by Geo in which blasphemy has been committed against Ahl-e-Bait and the principles of Islam. The programme has evoked sorrow and anger among people of Pakistan,” reads the resolution.
“The House demands Pemra take action against the programme, participants and management of Geo in no time so that no one in the future can dare to commit such an act of humiliation.”
The resolution was first moved by Leader of the Opposition in the provincial assembly, Mian Mehmoodur Rashid. However, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan later proposed an amendment which said, “The house condemns Geo’s programme in which blasphemy has been committed against Ahl-e-Bait... as Pemra has already taken up this issue, hopefully it will take action according to law. The house appeals to all Ulema and scholars to guide the nation ideologically.”
