Sectarian hit: MWM leader escapes bid on life

One of the suspects was shot dead by security guards of MWM leader.

QUETTA: A leader of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM), Mubarak Ali, escaped an assassination bid by unidentified assailants on Kasi Road in Quetta. One of the suspects was shot dead by the security guards of Mubarak Ali. According to police two assailants opened fire on the vehicle of the MWM leader at the intersection of Dr Noor Yaseen Street and Kasi Road. In retaliatory fire a man was killed who Ali said was one of the suspects. Ali, a known sportsman, escaped unhurt in the attack. The body was shifted to Provincial Sandeman Hospital where he was identified as Zafar Khan a resident of Sibi, a police official said, adding, nothing was recovered from the body. The deceased as identified by his relative Munir Shawani, police said. “Police are investigating the incident,” a senior police official said. “The guard of the MWM leader said he shot dead one of the assailants, however, police have not recovered anything from the body,” he said.
