The Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) is yet to receive official confirmation from international teams regarding their participation in the South Asian Men’s Netball Championship in Islamabad.
The delay has created difficulties for the officials of the PNF, who are trying to gain sponsors to raise Rs3.5 million to organise the event.
“The international teams have been given till May 15 to confirm their participation,” PNF Secretary Mudassir Arain told The Express Tribune.
“They are awaiting No-Objection Certificates from their respective governments, which should not take too much time. We can’t get sponsors unless we receive an official nod from the participants.”
The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) had earlier turned down the PNF’s request for a grant of Rs3.5 million, citing shortage of funds. However, the board has promised an amount of Rs1 million for the federation.
“Rs1 million is PNF’s annual grant, which is just awaiting PSB’s consent to be released,” said Arain. “However, we need more funds for organising an international event. That is why we have again requested the board to increase the annual grant to Rs3.5 million.”
On the other hand, the PSB said that all federations require sponsors for big events and that the PNF would have no problems in organising the South Asian Championship successfully.
The PNF has invited Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and defending champions India for the championship, which is scheduled to run from June 23-26 at the Liaquat Gymnasium Hall, Islamabad.
