Red tape Skilled teachers stand to lose benefits

GILGIT: Over three dozen teachers in Gilgit-Baltistan may lose out on increments and other benefits if they are not allowed to take up their respective government posts before June. After passing the Federal Public Service Commission tests in March, at least 18 trained graduate science teachers and 32 trained graduate teachers are still waiting for ‘offer letters’ from the education department. Too much red tape and a lax attitude on behalf of the authority is causing the delay, the teachers said on Tuesday. They threatened to take legal action if the delay costs them increments or other privileges. An official privy to the matter said the teachers will not lose out and the issue is being resolved.
