MIRANSHAH:

Around five mortars fired by unidentified militants from Afghanistan landed in North Waziristan Agency on Saturday morning.

No human loss was reported in the incident, said an official of the security forces deployed in the area.

The official said in the early hours of the morning, five mortars landed on a clear field in Dandi Kach in Speen Waam tehsil of the agency after which people rushed out in protest and demanded security forces retaliate against the cross-border attack.

Meanwhile, a curfew remained imposed for the third consecutive day in North Waziristan and tribesmen were warned to restrict themselves to their houses and not venture out on main routes.

Hundreds of tribesmen remain stranded in Bannu and Frontier Region Bannu owing to lack of transport while all business and educational activities in the agency are halted.

With board exams going on all over the country, students of the area missed their assessments owing to the curfew.

Imran Wazir, a resident of Miranshah Bazaar, said they missed their Islamiat paper due to the ongoing curfew. “Our entire academic career is at stake over this,” he said.
