He said that the power project will increase its electricity production to 1000MW in two to two and a half years.
"Pakistan comes to a complete halt if there is no electricity," stated the premier.
Nawaz also questioned the work that was being done by previous governments with regards to the energy sector, stating "what was going on in the past 10 to 15 years".
'Gwadar, state like Dubai'
Speaking about the development of the city of Gwadar during the ceremony, Nawaz stated that it "will be a state like Dubai, a state like Singapore, a state like Hong Kong."
He further said that it will be turned into a modern city with a state-of-the-art airport and a free port.

In December, hmm, just when Punjab is enveloped by dense fog. I wonder how planners decide when a project should launch. Maybe they just read tea leaves.
And Fools rush in!
Gimmicks, Gimmicks and more Gimmicks. Mian will never change nor will Pakistan, as I can understand from above comments of innocent, easily fooled people of Pakistan.
Highly not recommended at this time... We have studied the efficiency of solar panels... it normally doesn't exceed beyond 18%... That is highly inefficient... If you need to try these solar panels... Try them out at the traffic signals in urban areas where you have deployed these Traffic Wardens in the 21st Century... Try these out for a year... If they work well... Go ahead with the project... If it doesn't than look out for other alternatives... There is no better alternative than hydropower... The same amount should be spent on another hydropower plant apart from Dasu... Solar energy is the energy of future but it is too costly for Pakistan... Another important aspect that needs attention is that if we are promoting Solar Panels, make sure they are manufactured at Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET)... so that we are capable of having an important industry in Pakistan, and generate income out of it as well...
@Salman Ahmed: ".....We should learn to be able to distinguish stupid gimmicks from reality." . Remember the hype about, a Water-run-car invented by a Shikarpuri engineer. Let's enjoy this one too. We do not want to lose the title of "World's Most Gullible Nation."
A few facts:
This is paid for by GOP and hasn't attracted a single private investor.
Solar power at these rates (which are still very high for Pakistan)it is not feasible - it costs much more to produce and maintain. Guess who will provide a subsidy - you the tax payer!
Efficiency of solar panels is still low for commercial large scale use.
A country like Spain which subsidized solar power plants (incl the molten salt varieties) had to pull back as the subsidy became crippling.
Abu Dhabi's Masadar is mega heavily subsidized too.
We should learn to be able to distinguish stupid gimmicks from reality.
Finally a politician and government start working and delivering. Finally we start seeing good news in this depressing pakistan. A ray of hope. Congratulations Pakistanis. Thank you nawaz sharif.
Great beginning PM to ease the pain of energy in Pakistan. Pakistan is blessed with lot more sunshine than most other countries. What you don’t see is hurting you instead of helping and its called SOLAR ENEGY. Millions of megawatts of FREE Solar Energy from the Sun is coming down to earth in Pakistan. All it is doing is burning poor workers feet or body instead of being HARNESSED as Solar Energy through the use of now much lower cost and higher performance SOLAR PANELS. Best for Pakistan is to quickly place 100’s of SMALL 50MW or 100MW SOLAR FARMS in small urban or rural areas. The effect on ENEGY INDEPENDENCE will be phenomenal and immediate. Just make sure the entire solar energy system is high quality and maintained professionally. Not #2 or #3 quality where money allocated for each project is mostly pocketed as kickbacks etc. For Pakistan small % of energy through solar is the fasted way and lowest cost today to get energy. Additional energy saving steps can also help.
If we see news on Pakistan from past ten years, there have never been so many development projects. This government is doing so much. PML N is the way to go. I hope that they continue the good work. I will be proud to support them again in next elections.

This excellent step shows the sincerity of PMLN Government !
Does he really know the difference between 100MW and 1000MW? PMLN contributed zero MW in its last govt in Punjab.
I'm just want to see how haters come up with words to criticize on this great work! At least appreciate for the sake of country's development.
They are just fooling the nation. This new drama is to divert attention frm IK protest. Before election they said we will get u out of darkness within 2 and 6 months.Even n above para there z a line that this project was scheduled in march 2014.Please tell me is there any single hour of loadshedding reduction since their govt..
@Ahmad: @noon hai janoon:
The current Prime Minister of Pakistan has a genuine entrepreneur and a very decent individual too, otherwise he could have reminded Pakistanis that a similar project in Rawalpindi during the rule of military Governor Mr Parvez, was discontinued for maintainance cost reasons which was provided to Pakistan by the German Government free of charge.
Rex Minor
will be a state like Dubai, a state like Singapore, a state like Hong Kong.” jHOOT BOLATA HAI
@Asif: At least Nawaz Sharif is working to improve Pakistan unlike so many previous politicians and generals - this makes all the difference. People should appreciate the efforts of the current government even if they support another party.
I am glad that Mian Sahib solved the energy crisis in the first year like he promised. What a great PM, i wish all politicians kept their promises like he does!
really appreciate all the hard work
keep it up
If Khi belongs to all then Gwader belongs to all
@baloch lets talk about Pakistan not our own corners please.
@Baloch: Pakistan bought Gawadar from the Sultanat of Oman in 1958 at a cost of 3 million USD, now easily worth more than 3 billion USD. It was not a part of Baluchistan earlier.
gwadur belongs to the people of pakistan if other Baluch leaders have done nothing at least appreciate something is being done eventually this will benefit balouchis.By saying Gwadur belongs to Balouch people very poor mentality
Mian Sahib is the only leader who has vision and determination to take us forward. Rest are all agitators.
@Baloch: And you would rather keep it as a barren and dead city, would you? I know the Baloch have their grievances, but development never hurts anyone, the sooner you accept this, the better.
@Shakir Lakhani: He is going to grant independence to Gwadar to joint the club of the other sovereign nations he has named. Does he know the difference between state and city?
Friend who still criticizing should rethink about their thinking. I think NZ is doing good job.
@baloch gawadar didnt belong to baluch people or baluchistan govt of pakistan took it from oman infact purchased it was oman territory before
Cheap energy from solar @ Rs 15/per unit for poor people, what a joke
To the comments above, yes making Gawadar like Dubai is a dream, and the first step towards success is to dream big. I am happy that NS is working well and looks determined to lead the country out of this mess.. Godspeed
Gwadar "will be a state like Dubai, a state like Singapore, a state like Hong Kong.” Is that right? Singapore is an independent republic!
Only mian nwaz shareef has tools to take out country from such abyss..God bless you mian sb..keep going..
I am totally surprised his statements 100 to 1000 MW in 2 years and gwadar to dubai, singapore etc.. Even another 10 years you can't achieve 1000MW and a city with no infrastructure except a small port to dubai is like joke of the century. Why they are fooling people.
will be a state like Dubai, a state like Singapore, a state like Hong Kong
In dreams only!! :)
Really impressed by the pace of work shown by the government, they deserve appreciation.
