Many of us were heartbroken when Dr Isobel (Izzie) Stevens left Seattle Grace Hospital in 2010. Actor Katherine Heigl, who played the part in Grey’s Anatomy for five years, was adored for her bubbly persona and for us food lovers, her compulsive baking.

What has come as a pleasant surprise, the actor is officially making her way back to the small screen after a four-year hiatus, reported E! Online.

NBC announced on Tuesday that Heigl will star and executive produce a new CIA drama named State of Affairs. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Heigl’s mother and mother Nancy is also among the executive producers of the show.

The show revolves around a CIA officer, played by Heigl, whose job is to strategise with and brief the president. Her character, whose name is yet to be announced, will take up the responsibility of targeting the United States’ most grave threats while employing the lifestyle that is part and parcel of such a high-powered job.

“The story is not only compelling and intelligent, but also a look behind the curtain at the CIA, which we haven’t seen before in film or television,” Heigl about the show in a statement. “I am thrilled and honoured to be asked to be a part of developing these stories and this character and bringing it all to life,” she said, people.com reported.

All eyes are back on her to see if she achieves recognition for her new series that is tantamount to her breakthrough role as Izzie. Heigl left the show after she had a creative clash with its producers.

Interestingly, sources earlier said that Heigl’s decision to return to the small screen has been made because she has come across as difficult in the Hollywood fraternity. She previously made public her grievances about both Grey’s and her 2007 film Knocked Up, the latter of which she described as ‘sexist’, reported the Hollywood Reporter.

We’re nothing less than thrilled that she will be grace our television screens once again. Welcome back to TV, Katie.
