The PTI had planned to hold the protest on May 11 this year -- the one year anniversary of the May 11, 2013 democratic elections.
“We had accepted the election, but we have not accepted the rigging,” Chairman of PTI Imran Khan had said earlier in April, adding that those who were involved in the rigging should be exposed and brought to justice.
The No-Objection Certificate (NOC) that PTI had requested has been rejected because of the word jalsa used in it. They have also objected because there is no mention of preparations regarding lighting or routes in the NOC. The timeframe of the protest has not been mentioned either.
PTI has been requested to provide a brief in order for security arrangements to be made, after which permission may be granted.
Earlier when PTI had announced the protest, many parties had announced their support for it including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Tahirul Qadri's Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). Others, however, were not so inclined.
Leader of the opposition of the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had stated earlier on May 5 that his party had no interest in the protest.
Shah had said that Khan should take up these issues in an appropriate forum such as the Parliament, rather than becoming a part of Dr Tahirul Qadri's campaign.

PTI is not a party it is a like a union of likeminded establishment supported people who have been used for the vested interest of exploiter group in agencies. they are being used and then thrown away. Since the beginning I am crying the attitude of people in this union is so abusive that they can abuse their mother/father also. they do not have the courage to listen the truth..... now as agencies asked them to create chaos in the country they have started. and future of Imran khan in no different to Asghar khan.
@Ch. Allah Daad:
The perfect statement a Zia Ul Haq's follower can give!!!!
Shame for Imran Khan who is a selfish and Liar politician. He never sticks to his words.
@Kiran: Check-mate!! Your endorsement doesn't matter!
@Muslim Leaguer: huh u ppl make me sad really...
No sane man can vote for PTI.
I endorse above comment written by Muslim Leaguer. PTI is looking for one more General Pasha.
There should be no agitation in islamabad. PTI should not be allowed to gather at D chowk. Imran is trying to fool the nation. He will not succeed. Youth voted for PML-N. This is the main reason for victory of PML-N. PTI should focus on governing KPK but their entire attention is at protesting instead of governing.
I dislike Ik because of his proud and arrogance. He has failed to deliver in kpk. He wants to divert the attention of public from kpk affairs.
What PTI workers did in Lahore high court yesterday. Whole world witnessed it. It seems that PTI is the party of illiterate people. No civilization is observed in the workers of PTI. No benefit of this agitation. PTI should focus on KPK and I am sure that they will not be able to win KPK in next elections. PTI is doing maximum corruption in KPK. They know that they will not get chance again.
@talha: We can only laugh at your innocence and ignorance. Once again the time proves that ego-maniacs have no place in the world. Imran Khan, being an egoist is losing fast the popularity he had gained with the help of 2Gs I.e., General Pasha and Geo TV. Now General Pasha has retired and Imran Khan has tirade against Geo, there is no one to over-project Imran Khan who is politically becoming a history very fast!
Are the comments filtered on the basis of source ip address? :) looks to me the last 6msgs were all from the same source...
@Liaquat: visit KPK govt website all the latest development and bills passed by assembly have attached there. . Just dont support Nawaz Sharif Police are doing much better in KPK and positive things happen there.
@AAW: These elections were free and fair? We're you at the polling stations because i was and millions of other people who were at the polling stations saw the rigging in front of their eyes. How can the vote results in a country with 200 million people come out in a few hours whereas in other countries it takes weeks?
protest is for about our future and if there didn't any rigging in the general election , today the consequence would be different.
we are with you IMRAN KHAN.
no hope from imran. only hope is nawaz sharif.
One of the main characteristic of a good leader is that he should not be an opportunist. I am sorry to say that Imran Khan is an opportunist.
I dislike PTI because they have blamed Justice Iftikhar who is the best CJ in the history of pakistan.
pti should not be allowed to do agitation at d chowk.
@AAW: "These were quite free, fair and transparent elections" Then you also must believe that elephants can fly
Where is the new KPK that was to be made by PTI in 90 days. Now a year is gone. I am still searching for that new KPK.
There would be no rigging only if PTI would have won the elections. Immature and selfish politics of IK.
Has any politician accepted defeat in Pakistan since partition? Answer is no. Imran is also doing the same thing. There is nothing new in it. No difference between Imran and other politicians. Where is the change?
These were quite free, fair and transparent elections. Baseless protest of PTI. PTI lost the elections and they should wait till 2018.
PTI is doing traditional politics of blaming others. They have badly failed in KPK and want to hide that failure. KPK is suffering from corruption of PTI.
Ah, democracy.
during PPP Qadri was allowed ,but now under Nawaz shareef rule protest are not allowed at D-chowk....a govt.coming in fake mandate can not face people power
Polio is spreading from NWFP to all parts of the country. Bombs are going off yet all PTI care is for is dharnas while people stay neglected. Well done! Such selfish attitude of our politicians and even more of the youth that follows them. Please wake up.
Our Parliament is a forum where core issues are being dumped. Hence Shah's suggestions are invalid
Protest doesn't require anyone consent! Way to go PTI
Good job. Anarchy is the worst enemy of the nation therefore nobody should be allowed to spread it.
sentex errror in very begining -- please check
as expected now PMLN will provide FREE publicity to PTI's campaign. Thank Govt./ PMLN
“We had accepted the election, but we have not accepted the rigging” Imran Khan did not say this earlier in April, but he is saying this since June 2013.
Yes dear, all institutions are depoliticized in Pakistan. It is just a coincidence that all decisions go in favour of sharifs. We want more institutions politicized so that merit and justice is kicked out of the window once and for all.
Wish the administration had followed rules so closely to prevent electoral rigging in the first place!
