ISLAMABAD: The core committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approved an effective public campaign against the Geo/Jang Group and to “expose [its chief executive] Mir Shakilur Rehman in the public”. The committee decided to go public with proof against Mir Shakilur Rehman at an important news conference on Thursday. It was also decided that the PTI would defy all restrictions and stage a protest demonstration at D Chowk on May 11 at all costs.

The PTI’s core committee met at the residence of Imran Khan at Bani Gala, on the edge of Islamabad on Tuesday.

All key leaders of the party, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shireen Mazari, Shafqat Mehmood and Arif Alvi, attended the meeting which endorsed Imran Khan’s decision to boycott Jang/Geo Group for “abetting the May 11 election rigging and supporting the incumbent government.”

The PTI will now spearhead an effective public campaign against Geo/Jang Group. The committee reiterated its commitment to the independence of media and freedom of journalism – but at the same time said that Geo/Jang Group’s alleged abetment of election rigging was condemnable.

It is so sad to note that Epress Tribune, for its own parochial interestes, is not supporting GEO group in the larger interest of the media. Today it is GEO and tomorrow it could be you.
