The robbers escaped with the cash and CCTV system, leaving behind a security guard with gunshot wounds.
According to Headquarters SP Syed Hyder Raza, six unidentified robbers broke into the bank, located on Station Road within the limits of City police station, at around 10am. They held the staff and customers hostage for over five minutes during which they completed the robbery.
SP Raza said that the security guard, Moula Bux, was injured when he resisted the robbers' attempt to snatch his gun. "The police are also investigating the staff although no one has been detained," he told the reporters outside the bank.
A member of the bank staff, on the condition of anonymity, said that the robbers' faces were not covered. "The police are taking details of their facial description from the staff and customers," he added.
The SP said that the robbers could not break the bank's locker and that they only stole cash from the counter. An FIR of the incident has not been registered so far. Earlier on February 28, a bank in Latifabad was looted of Rs3.2 million. Seven armed robbers were involved in the incident but no one has been arrested yet.
