KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection for the national team’s head coach has welcomed another applicant, as former Test cricketer Mohsin Khan decides to apply for the post as well.

Mohsin stated that Sethi has stressed that the selection will be based on merit, giving him confidence that he poses a genuine chance of returning to the helm.

Under his coaching, the Pakistan team went on to defeat England 3-0 in the UAE, which was one of his major achievements as coach, while the team also defeated Sri Lanka and Bangladesh across all formats. His track record has been error-free both as a player and coach for Pakistan

“I’m confident of my chances to become head coach if merit remains the criteria because my track record as a player and coach is in front of everybody,” he said.

“No controversy was witnessed during my tenure as coach as I laid special emphasis on discipline and performance.”

‘I don’t understand the reasons for my removal’

Mohsin, who holds the record of being the only Pakistani player to score a double ton at Lords and the first Pakistani to score 1000 runs in a calendar year, recalled that the team was doing pretty well until some officials in the PCB hatched a conspiracy to get rid of him in the name of bringing a qualified coach during Zaka Ashraf’s time as chairman.

“Despite tasting so much success as a coach, I don’t understand the reasons for my removal; however that is history. I want to do well for my country in the present and the future.”

Former player and current selector Ijaz Ahmed is the favourite for the fielding coach position, while Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq will vie for the post of the spin-bowling consultant.

There have been several entries for the batting coach job as well, with the most prominent of them being Zimbabwe’s Grant Flower and Basit Ali.

I respect Mohsin Khan for his services for Pakistan cricket as a cricketer as a coach and as a commentator, but i still feel Waqar is much better option for coaching team Pakistan then Mohsin Khan, the next world cup is in WC 2015 is in Aus , NZ and there a bowling coach will do better by preparing our bowlers who have more prospect then our batsman the way we won WC 1992 under the great captaincy of Imran Khan. Now it's the time to repeat that though our team is still not prepared and up to the task but from that is where our team, is famous for bouncing back in difficult situation the way they did in WC 1992. Waqar should be appoiunted asap we can save time and put that time not on confusion but rather on team, preparing and building.

Mohsin is too immature to be a coach. You have to have good interpersonal and management skills to be a successful coach. Most of our cricketers are as immature as kids playing in the gali...the mentality is that if you give me out, I will take my bat and ball and won't let anyone play. Mohsin is no different.
