British PM David Cameron expresses satisfaction over performance of Department for International Development in Punjab

British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday praised the reform agenda undertaken by the Punjab government.


Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is accompanying the prime minister on his tour to the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, Nawaz held a meeting with his British counterpart wherein the latter appreciated the Punjab government’s initiatives.

According to officials privy with the meeting, Cameron expressed satisfaction over the performance of Department for International Development (DFID) in Punjab.

Following the meeting Shahbaz said, “My team has been putting in our best efforts for development of Punjab, particularly introducing reforms in the education sector.”

Moreover, Shahbaz told the British prime minister that the British government has also offered a 50 million pounds project through DFID which focuses on the health sector. Shahbaz added that the Punjab government will share the cost of the project. He also added that Britain was also assisting the Punjab government to enhance its capacity to fight terrorism by improving prosecution and civil defence.
