Clifton Flyover, Underpasses: SHC asks for SEPA certificate

The bench instructed Sepa to prepare an EIA report strictly in accordance with law

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday restrained Bahria Town again, from constructing a flyover and two underpasses in the Clifton area of Karachi.

A single bench headed by Justice Munib Akhtar directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to obtain a mandatory environmental impact assessment (EIA) report from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency Sepa on the project.

The bench also instructed the Sepa to prepare an EIA report strictly in accordance with law and adhering to the environmental laws on top priority basis.

The bench however made it clear that if the EIA is approved, then KMC shall be at liberty to move an appropriate application in this suit to recall and vacation of the interim order issued by court.
