Jang’s smear campaign: TIP condemns ISI, army’s media trial

TI Pakistan supports across the board action by the government on the reference filed in Pemra by Minister of Defence

Transparency International (TI) Pakistan on Tuesday issued a statement, condemning Jang Group’s smear campaign against Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan army.


“The TI Pakistan condemns the deliberate acts of Geo TV and Jang Group against Pakistan’s interest, [its campaign]  maligning the ISI on TV and newspapers [and] making false accusation particularly against the ISI chief  Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam repeatedly on April 19 and 20,” said the statement issued by  TI Pakistan chief Sohail Muzaffar.


The statement said to ridicule a respected institution like Pakistan Army was a flagrant violation of the Article 19 of the Constitution.


The TI Pakistan chief said the organisation supported across the board action by the government on the reference filed in Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) by the Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
