Elevator accident: Woman suffocates in stalled lift

Fatima's son, Ahmed, refused to approach the police to pursue any legal action. The police did not register any case.

An elderly woman died after she was stuck inside an elevator at a residential building in Clifton on Tuesday.


The deceased woman was identified as Fatima, 65, a resident of Shah Rasool Colony. She used to work as a maid at a few apartments in the building, Chapel Ocean, located in Block-4. Boat Basin police SHO Naseer Tanoli said that the deceased was stuck in the elevator for some time and died of suffocation.

"The elevator was not working at the time and was stuck inside," he said. "We are trying to ascertain whether or not it was a technical fault." The officer said that the management of the building has also been questioned and they are conducting an inquiry as well.

The body was taken to Jinnah Postgradaute Medical Centre from where her family took it away without medico-legal formalities. Fatima's son, Ahmed, also refused to approach the police to pursue any legal action. The police did not register any case.

The whole country is running in an un-regulated manner, so this incident though sad is not surprising.....
