Atmospheric pollution

Administrative bodies in the city should be tasked with suggesting solutions and managing this problem.

KARACHI: These days, the atmosphere of all major urban cities around the world has become overladen with gases emitted by automobiles. The alarming rate of deaths caused by automobile pollution is something that should be brought to the notice of the authorities concerned.

With the passage of time, countless experts have maintained that polluted air has serious effects on health, climate and economics. Human activities have a unified impact on weather and climate, which are resulting in worldwide concentration of pollutants. Chlorofluorocarbons, carbon dioxide, methane, oxides of nitrogen, lead compounds and several other dust and gaseous particles pervade the air.

Lead is a major air, nose and throat irritant. Above all, it also causes cancer. This element, much to our alarm, is emitted by countless vehicles in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, which do not use lead-free fuel.

Moreover, one of the key causes of pollution are the heavy traffic jams and insufficient greenery in different areas of Karachi. Administrative bodies in the city should be tasked with suggesting solutions and managing this problem in suitable ways via public awareness programmes.
