KARACHI: Hosts Young Rising Star (YRS) WFC Rawalpindi clinched the title of the inaugural National U16 Inter-Club Women’s Football Championship after defeating Soccer Queen WFC (SQ) 4-0 in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

YRS, who organised the event in collaboration with the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), reached the final after their win against Karachi’s Fatimah Jinnah WFC. Meanwhile, Soccer Queen WFC defeated Diya WFC 1-0 in their semi-final encounter.

YRS dominated the match as their strikers Anorina and Eman Maqsood scored two goals each.

After the match, Diya manager and coach Sadia Sheikh stated that the PFF should now organise an U14 girls championship as well.

“This has been a great tournament, and a very well organised one,” Sadia, whose team received the prize for fair play and also for a paramount performance in the championship, told The Express Tribune.

“It was a good initiative by the PFF and YRS. I believe that the U16 championship should take place regularly. Even if it takes the organisers two years to hold the U14 championship, that is fine. But at least it would be a step forward.”

Meanwhile, she said that YRS had emerged as a strong side, while SQ also competed well in the final.

“I think there is potential in all of these girls. At this age, it is the passion for the game that counts and not winning or losing,” said Sadia.

At the end of the event, PFF Secretary Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi gave away Rs75,000 to YRS while SQ bagged Rs50,000.

SQ’s Eman Arif was declared the best player while YRS’s Numrica Young was the best goal-keeper of the event.

Maqsood and Anorina shared the prize for the tournament’s top scorers.
