The Sindh Assembly on Friday unanimously approved a resolution condemning Geo News’ smear campaign against the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The resolution, which was tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Khurram Sher Zaman, also carried the signatures of Irfanullah Marwat, Nand Kumar and Samar Ali Khan, parliamentary leaders of the PML-N, PML-F and PTI, respectively.
“This assembly condemns Geo News’ objectionable statements, which defamed the ISI,” says the resolution. The media group levelled fabricated allegation against the spy agency without any evidence, which is an irresponsible act on its part, the resolution reads. “The ISI is our esteemed institution in which we take pride.”
Giving arguments in support of his resolution, Sher Zaman stressed the need for freedom of expression, but said that “nobody should be allowed to malign the ISI in this manner.” He added that no Pakistani could tolerate such allegations.
The assembly also passed a resolution against Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, who recently accused the people of Sindh of electricity theft. “Such a statement is condemnable as it could disrupt inter-provincial and national harmony,” reads the resolution.
