PESHAWAR:

Kidnappers on Friday released one cousin of slain Awami National Party (ANP) leader Mian Mushtaq.

Locals told The Express Tribune Mian Shakil was released by militants in the morning and reached his house in Masho Khel village safely. “His brother Mian Fahad and cousin Mian Shabbir Ahmad are still in their custody,” said a local elder, adding that the man was probably released so that he can secure the release of his two relatives by arranging a payment.

On April 20, 30 heavily armed militants stormed Mushtaq’s house early morning. They initially kidnapped five men, two of whom were released soon after. Before fleeing, the militants also planted four explosives in the area and detonated them, damaging the house.

The late ANP leader was murdered on January 12 while he was on his way to Peshawar from Masho Khel.
